16-in Cordless Lawnmower is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mower good, batteries worthless I bought this mower because we had had a B&D cordless, self-propelled mower than ran for 16 years. It was a beast, but it was durable. The old NiCad batteries were heavy, but they packed plenty of juice, 35+ minutes of run time on each, even when many years old. The new mower is well designed and easy to use, but the poor performance of the LiIon batteries makes it worthless. They are less than 1.5 years old, but they take 3+ hours to charge and run for only 20 minutes. They also lose charge when stored: batteries that were fully charged 6 days ago ran for 15 minutes and 10 minutes, respectively, today. I'm done with B&D products. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak and Underpowered I bought this product for several reasons: (1) we built a new house on a much smaller lot size, (2) I am tired of messing around with gasoline-powered devices, and (3) I wanted to do my part to cut down on noise and air pollution in my new, more dense community. The advertised amount of lawn that this mower can handle is 1/8 acre. Since our lot is 1/4 acre and at least half of the lot is consumed by house, driveway, sidewalks, and natural areas, I assumed this cordless mower would work just fine. I could not have been more wrong. The mower comes with two 40-volt Max Li-Ion batteries. I burned through both of them and had barely made a dent in my lawn. By recharging batteries after they were depleted and finding something else to do until each battery was fully recharged, my little 1/8 acre plot of grass took the equivalent of 6 batteries worth of power to mow. I thought I was going to save time and effort by using a cordless lawnmower. Measuring the process of mowing from start to finish, it easily took me more than 10 times as long to mow my lawn as it did with the gasoline-powered mower that I rented until this Black and Decker finally came in. I'm going to hire a lawn service to mow and edge my lawn. For now, I guess I'll keep this cute little lawnmower in the garage to perform periodic minor trimming. So, unless you have a postage stamp sized lawn, I would steer clear of this lawnmower.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SMALL lawns only! This little mower is quiet, light, and easy to use--plus you don't have to mess around w/ gas/oil concoctions. If you're interested in saving the planet and have a SMALL lawn, this type of mower may be just what you're looking for. However, there were a few design flaws that made this mower impossible for me to use w/ any efficiency, and after using one time, I decided to return it. 1# The bag that catches the grass is TINY. After mowing for only five minutes #no joke--FIVE#, I had to stop to empty the bag! After playing around w/ this issue for awhile, I finally got annoyed enough to try removing the bag to see if I could mow w/out it. 2) The mower worked w/ bag removed, but the chute for discharging the grass is on the back of the machine--aimed directly at whomever is pushing the mower! It's covered with a flap #for safety, I presume# but the driver/pusher is still in the line of fire in the event any yard debris comes flying out that chute. I considered that to be a MAJOR DESIGN FLAW and very dangerous too. 3) The flap the hangs over the chute is automatically forced open when the bag is in place, but when the bag is removed, the flap is closed. So, every few minutes of mowing, the mower would get clogged with grass, which would result in a sluggish mower. I would then have to pry the door open with my foot or hand #another dangerous situation) to discharge a pile of clippings. 4) The mower comes w/ two batteries. The idea is that while one is charging, you can use the other to power your mower. Unfortunately, the batteries don't charge fast enough to keep you mowing non-stop. PLUS, using the batteries makes them HOT and they have to cool down before the charger will even begin to charge them. So, plan on giving your battery a half hour or so to cool off and then another hour or so to charge up again. It took forever! A yard that could have been mowed in 30-45 minutes ended up taking all day. ***In my opinion, for an average sized lawn #or larger), this mower just doesn't cut it! I'd still like to "go green," but will have to shop around to find an electric mower that better suits my lawn size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problems, many advantages for small lawn I bought this last year & have been kicking myself for waiting so long to get it. I must confess I have a tiny lawn, so take that into account. However, here are the many advantages I have encountered: 1) very lightweight, which means getting it up & down levels of the yard is simple; it can really be picked up with one hand by the handle on top of the chassis 2) ultra-quiet, which means I don't stump along behind it in the jet-blast I used to get from my gasoline beast nor wake my neighbors when I set it off 3) no wrestling with oil changes, cleaning, spark plug, priming, etc. associated with gas engine & no need to fetch or store gas 4) cuts cleanly and efficiently, and I have never run out of battery time, using no more than one battery to cut both front & back lawns...I set the mower at the highest level for cutting & never have problems "powering through"... 5) I do not put the basket for cuttings on the mower, since I learned years ago that it will serve nicely as a mulch on the lawn & provides needed nutrients....if I find it unsightly for some reason, I just rake it off, but mostly I don't...I don't have debris in my lawn, so I don't worry about hit by rocks, etc. which the rear flap covers anyway with the basket off...theoretically a "design flaw" but practically not... 6) did I mention it has a push-button start (with safety catch) which means no more yanking your arm out of its socket to get the mower going? So I guess it depends on what you want, how big your property is, how fast & thick your lawn grows, etc. but this has been a perfect solution for me....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stay Away Bought a Black and Decker Mower 3 years ago. The charger went out to charge the battery. They stopped making the Charger so Now I have a useless lawn Mower. Black and Decker says they are sorry and will offer 20% off on a trade in. Stay away form this company If you want the mower to last go with someone else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what we wanted I bought this last week and am delighted with it. It was easy to assemble and the battery charged in about 30 minutes...then we were away. It started so easily and is very light. We didn't attach the grass catcher as we prefer to have the grass clippings remain on the lawn. The second battery is a plus. We charged it also in 30 minutes or less and it is always ready to go when the other one finishes. We only have a small lawn area to cover and this is so much better than lugging that electric cord all over the place. We would highly recommend this lawn mower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MORE THAN CAPABLE This is the first of this type mower that I have had. I knew I would be more than happy with it being Black & Decker and I was not disappointed. Even though it is battery powered, it certainly does not lack for cutting power. Because it is not tethered by an extension cord, I was able to move around my large yard freely and without getting tied up with a cord. Even though it had a small cutting area, it made short work of my yards with a close and neat cut. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
