i'm new to rivets... is 3/16 the ONLY size this tool will set, or the MAXIMUM size? thanks much.

Asked by: plutek
talking to myself here... :) i just looked on the Arrow website, and found that this tool takes 1/8, 5/32, and 3/16 size rivets. i would suggest that the description above should be amended to make that clear.

Is this tool for aluminum and steel rivets? i have to install about 10 pcs 3/16| steel. The tool i have currently does not work for that size.

Pivoting Steel Rivet Tool - 360° is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 198.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The head broke on the first steel rivet! Bought this about three years ago as a lifetime tool as it appeared to be heavy duty and I've had other Arrow tool products that have worked well. I used it on a light duty gutter project and it worked well and the swivel head was handy. I haven't used it again until yesterday. I had a heavier use project and bought steel rivets. The head broke (split) on the first rivet. DO NOT USE WITH STEEL RIVETS! The head material, although appearing very heavy duty, is light duty cast material.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can't put 5/32 rivet into head I an unable to insert a 5/32 rivet into the product. I have the correct size nut and I have backed out the spring pressure fitting until it almost falls out but it still will not go past the internal jaws. I have even taken the spring and jaw assembly apart to ensure that it isn't messed up then oiled it and reassembled it with no luck. Smaller rivets worked fine. Currently unusable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from does not work I had the pleasure of finding another brand of pop rivet tools that are no good at all. Upon using the tool the first pop rivet seated and popped just fine, but now the shank of the rivet is stuck in the jaws and will not release at all, I removed the head and cannot get the jaws to move at all. Cheaper guns just release them when you spread the handles and tip it over. This does not. I bought this because the lower priced model without the swivel head design did the same thing. What a waste of time and money. I HAVE WORK TO DO!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Epic product failure I purchased this tool because it is Arrow and the swivel head rivet tool RHT300 looked pretty stout since it is "steel" and should last a long time. That is far from the truth! This tool literally shattered and broke because it is pot metal and cannot handle too much use. I was right in the middle of my project on the second rivet with 30 more to go and adhesive setting when it failed leaving me in a pinch. Now I had to buy another rivet gun, new aluminum sheet and have to redo all my efforts again. This was a real let down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great design idea, poor quality. The swivel head is a great idea and design . It was a little finicky at first but with a little W-D, I was able to get it working pretty good pulling most rivets in about three pumps. Unfortunately, after pulling only about 50 rivets, the draw bolt broke where it connects to the handle. After looking at where it broke I could see that it was cast, or pot looking metal not a grade bolt and I believe that is why it broke. If you are only using it for small rivets this would probably work pretty good...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Puer quality tool There is no information on the tool, that it is not applicable for stainless steel rivets. Have used successfully on aluminum rivets. As soon as tried to tight SS rivets it was good enough for one rivet. Do not recommend to buy this tool for excessive usage due to the pure quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Solid in hand and nice that it has comes with the various tips mounted right in the tool to swap out. I was very pleased that despite it's size I could fit into tighter spaces. For example I was splicing together 4" venting pipe for a clothing dryer exhaust. You need to open the handles completely to engage the internal catch mechanism, in other words you can't make small steps in the tightening of the rivet. A little tricky if you don't have enough space, but it works. Overall good addition to the tool box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice features-to bad it doesn't work. I just bought this to replace some loose 3/16" rivets in my snowmobile. It worked for the 1st 3-4 rivets then started breaking a few of the shafts off about 1/2 way down then after 10-12 rivets it won't even grasp the shaft tight enough to pull it up into the body of the rivet let alone break it. I have Arrow staple guns and hammer tackers and never had a problem so I thought I would try the RHT300 pop rivet gun but it obviously isn't built with the same quality as the other Arrow products I've used. Definitely wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keep it together! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This rivet tool is very well made. The swivel head on it makes getting into those tight spots a non-issue, unlike conventional rivet tools. When you have a bulky tool like a riveter you need to come up with something to make it applicable in more situations and whoever designed this one has done just that. The on-board rivet head size options also make it easy to switch between rivet sizes. Just take one out of the tool and put it on the head of the tool and you are set. Excellent design!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Airstream Maintenance [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have just received my new RT300S, the headless version of this pro riveter. I was immediately impressed with the well-built nature of this tool, especially in this age of disconnect between expectations and value delivered. This tool feels good in hand and operation. I like the ease of operation without the need to change heads between changing 3 rivet sizes. This tool was purchased for home DIY jobs and Airstream camper maintenance. It did not disappoint in those regards. Very nice!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This Arrow Missed The Bullseye I purchased my RHT300 a year ago just so I would have one on hand. Recently I decided to try it out for a project requiring 5/32 steel rivets to hold some corner brackets. From the beginning, it was exceeding difficult to get the tool to "grip" the rivet enough to get the job done. I kept rotating the swivel head thinking that maybe if I found just the right "spot" I could get it to work better. It probably took me an hour or so (and a few other tools), but I eventually got all four corners done. I've always known Arrow to make quality products, so I'm very surprised to see such a basic tool to be so difficult to use. Hopefully, the design engineers have taken these home and tried it for themselves. Then the next version would be greatly improved!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A waste of my money I bought this to replace my twenty year old gun. I love the swivel head feature. But it's not worth the plastic it came packaged in. It doesn't even work as good as my used and abused twenty plus year old one. Then after trying to use it, it no longer would take rivets, if you could get one to go in, it wouldn't release it . So much for me EVER buying an Arrow poduct again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk!!! I have yet to get a a rivet to work on this piece of junk. I am using Arrow aluminum RSAW 1/8IP rivets and cannot get the tool to grab or hold the rivet. To top things off, no manual is provided and I had to watch YouTube videos to see how it functions. I have never purchased such a piece of piece of garbage in my life. Very disappointed in this product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great design [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The swivel head rivet tool is such a genius idea. It is very easy to use especially with the long handles. The handles are made very sturdy and allow for easy pulling and releasing. It is very comfortable to use because Of the grips. The tool comes with different size nozzles that attach securely to the front or the tool when not in use which I enjoy because I cannot loose time easily this way. This is a very helpul sturdy tool that i feel will last a great while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tool! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I found that there are more uses for this tool than I knew of. I have used it so many times just creating new things in my home. I enjoy working with wood and never knew I could use this tool. It's a very sleek and easy to handle tool. I love the grip handles. I have used this to hold wood shelves together that I build. It is actually more effective and hides easier than the screws I was using. I plan on finding many more uses for it. I highly recommend this tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool probably, but not for an old person (code 1117) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to rivet some aluminum duct-type sheet metal together to make squirrel guards for my bird feeders. So I got this good looking rivet gun that reminded me of one I used in my younger days. I'm 70 years old. When I used it, it was very quickly obvious that I don't have the strength anymore to make the rivet gun work. Just getting one rivet done was a challenge. It was a sad jerk into reality, so now I'll buy a squirrel guard instead of getting the satisfaction of making my own. But that's not Arrow's fault, of course. If I were a younger person this would be a most excellent all-round rivet gun, and its constructed I think to last a lifetime. If you're under age 70, you'll want to give it serious consideration.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So much for quality I have had several cheap rivet tools and decided to spend a little more and get a better one. Mistake! This thing did not last as long as the cheap ones before the guts stripped out of it. It will not grip the rivet any more. Probably less than 100 rivets and ready for the trash. So much or "quality".
Date published: 2014-01-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I liked this rivet tool. I used it for repairing my window. I enjoyed being able to use it with only one hand. It was light weighted and easy to use. The construct was made os steel and seems durable. It has four nose pieces for different sizes and it can be used with both aluminum and steel rivets. The grips were moderately comfortable for me. I wished the nose pieces were hand screws, so it could increase my speed. But in general, I am happy with this tool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea but just didn't hold up The swivel head is a great idea and was the reason I chose the RHT300 over the others. After a few hundred 1/16 rivets the green screw-in insert is no longer secure. The threads in the head are worn and I cannot tighten the insert. The other inserts will tighten but only because they have longer threads. The deeper portion of the threads will eventually suffer the same fate. This is not uncommon on a rivet gun but I didn't think it would occur this quickly. I think the metal in the head is not of high quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk junk junk Really disappointed these never worked tried adjusting the jaws as described in other reviews having the same problem but didn’t do a darn thing to make them work now I have to go back to the store to return them wasting my time costing me money

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality write out of the package [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So frustrated. Purchase this rivet gun and the one handed one to complete a custom gutter job after my old rivet gun failed after many years of service. Used the single handed gun for 3 rivets and the tip stripped right out of the threads in the housing. So opened this one up and it was broken right out of the package would not grip the rivets no matter what you adjust. So disappointed in the quality of these. Returned to store for reimbursement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Far from professional Purchased to do 1/8 aluminum rivets, the tool lasted for 4 rivets before the rivet stems started getting stuck in the tool. I should have listened too the bad reviews, don’t waste your time and money on this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what I need I am surprised by the negative review of this product. I have used this countless times to repair spouting. I use the 1/8 inch rivets. Works flawlessly each time. I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn’t I think of this? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Of all the times I’ve used a rivet gun, I never ever thought that it should have a swivel head. Now that I’ve used this I’ll never go back! Perfect for getting in tight spaces or areas that are hard to reach, you can even rivet upside down without turning the tool over so cool! The head swivels 360 degrees with no stops so the positions are endless! This is one of those products that make you say”huh! Why didn’t I think of that?”

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I bought this in my local hardware store. It is a piece of junk. It does not work on 3/16" aluminum rivets as advertised. Frustrating to buy a new tool that does not work properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 360 Degree head turn was a necessity [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Working on a fender well that had tight spaces and difficult angles, this tool was a real time and frustration saver.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked fine, until the cast casing cracked making it useless I have owned this rivet tool for a couple years, but purchased it for a one time use and have used it maybe 5 times total. While attempting one rivet today, the cast casing over the head of the gun cracked (in three places) and now the tool is useless and my rivet is stuck half way pulled through. I had no previous issues and was happy with the product, but there appears to be either poor casting of the cover, or just a design flaw that makes it susceptible to cracking under load.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall, a great tool. Glad I own it. I am baffled by the negative reviews on this product. I have used this tool regularly for several years in every conceivable DIY application without any difficulty or malfunction. It has seen well over 1000 rivets in 1/8 & 5/32, both aluminum and steel (not stainless) and does an excellent job joining all manner of thin gauge metal, including steel studs, duct work, downspouts, brackets, etc. as well as dissimilar sheet materials from PVC to leather. On board interchangeable parts are secure and convenient. The only improvement I would like to see is an indexed lock mechanism on the swivel head, as squeezing the handle with the head turned sideways can be awkward and require a second hand to keep the rivet tight against the material being fastened. Overall, a great tool, with which I have been very pleased.
