Will this work with a duct going out through a wall rather than the ceiling?

Asked by: homereno2nd
Yes, but ensure that if the duct will be near a soffit know the same humid air can enter the attic area.

I didnt pick up a switch so my question is two-fold...can I wire it in with a light switch and if so, can i put a timer inline with it or do I have to install a timer switch separate that will depend on teenage kids remembering to turn on?

Asked by: Livewire455

are there ceiling exhaust fans made specifically for kitchens, size roughly 8 to 13 inches square

Bathroom Fan - Invent Series - 110 CFM is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product I bought and installed this fan along with new insulated ducting two weeks ago. This new fan replaced an existing outdated and under-powered fan. Overall the install went well - the fan housing was easy to install due to attic accessibility - it would have been nice to have the fold-able metal side ears on both sides of the fan housing so that the installer has the option to choose which roof truss side to attach the fan housing. The new fan works great and as advertised - it exhausts any moisture buildup while showering very quickly. From a noise perspective, I have no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the new fan! I out one in for a friend as a retrofit. It was so easy to install and I was amazed how quiet it was while moving so much air. I ended up going back and buying 2 more for my house and putting them in as retofits. So easy. Took longer to take out old one and clean up then the actual instal. I added a piece of 2x4 and s couple extra acres to the opposite side if the truss. I have installed 3 and they are all super quiet... You can listen to music easily and not even notice the fan. I ended up buying fan timers as we keep forgetting to turn off the fan as they are so much quieter then the other ones. I also recommend going up a size like I did from a 90 to a 110 cfm as it really clears the steam and refreshes the air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective and pretty quiet Was confused about the reviews but bought it because of a Lowe's deal and am quite happy with my purchase. The fan is pretty quiet compared to the noisy builder installed fan and the ventilation is great! Am happy with the purchase! Some tips: - There are more than 1 Broan 110 cfm models and they look similar - some are 3 sone. Ensure you pick the right one.. - The old fan had a 3in duct whereas this fan has a 4in duct. So I replaced my 5-3 reducer with a 5-4 reducer rather than adding a 4-3 reducer to the existing duct - adding a 3in reducer will likely increase the noise and also reduce the effectiveness - I heard comments about a rattle due to backflow - this is likely because the damper flap does not close completely as i observed with mine. I weighed down the damper with a bit of foil tape (just a very small bit stuck to bottom of the flap on the duct side (not fan side) is sufficient for the flap to close when the damper is kept horizontal) - some reviews mentioned a 1cent coin but i did not want to add any more weight than necessary.. i have had no rattle so far...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent fan! Not completely silent though I bought this fan on a $80 off promotion and am very pleased with the purchase overall. Installation is not that straightforward when you are retrofitting from an older bathroom fan install and in particular, if the older fan is of a smaller size and the existing ventilation duct requires modification. Regardless, the fan itself is quiet enough not to be annoying but still suffers from some backflow rattles. Previously, I tried out the Broan model AR90C which rattled like crazy and was twice as loud as the noisy 30 year old fan I was replacing. It promptly went back to the store and this was purchased in its place. Happy overall. Would've given it 5 stars if the installation of the housing hadn't been so complicated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation Purchased as replacement so retrofit installation. The ability to install without going into the attic was great.Took more time to get the old unit out than install this new fan. Good airflow and reasonably quiet (at 1 sone much lower volume than the old 4 sone fan).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Underwhelmed Just replaced my old fan with this one. The install was surprisingly easy and not many tools required. This fan is definitely powerful, even with the long discharge vent run I have. However, the fan is surprisingly loud. I question how they came up with 1.0 sones because I think it is just as loud as my old one which was 2.5. Not a huge deal, but sound is a big factor when deciding on a new fan.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not one Sone It says on the description on the website that it's 1 Sone. It says in the fan itself and the box that it's 3. Definitely sounds louder than one. Otherwise seems to be a good unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite 1.0 sones Bought this a couple months ago and it's quite loud for a 1.0 sones. This replaced a 3.0 sones fan and I'd say this one is more like. 2.0. Seems to function ok.
