Rated 5 out of 5 by Chuck from Bosch's Bulldog Xtreme is a Great Tool In the past, drilling holes in concrete has given me problems. Drilling concrete has been slow and the bits wander off. I needed to drill several holes in concrete to install an awning, and the holes needed to be accurate. This rotary hammer tool placed the holes for Tapcon screws precisely where I wanted them. The tool cut fast and effortlessly. Lowes has a very good selection of bits for this tool. Tools don't come any better than this one.

I was trying to do the job (anchoring some 4x4 posts into existing concrete) with a light duty hammer drill (also a "blue" brand, but not the real deal, obviously), and I spent hours trying to drill just a single hole. This knocked out a single hole in seconds. Well worth the investment if you have a few holes to drill. My biggest regret is not buying it sooner - and wasting money on the other drill. Has 3 modes - drill, hammer, or hammer+drill. I didn't have to use the other modes much for my specific task, as the hammer+drill was so awesome. The only thing to warn you on is that it takes "SDS plus" bits. These are special bits - so the bits I bought for my other drill don't work. Each bit can be a touch pricy, and you'll want to know what size(s) you need for your job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DirtyHarry from Rotary Rage Using this miniature jack hammer was a hoot when removing the bathroom ceramic tile from an 10 foot long countertop and the ceramic tile from the bathtub walls. You can really peel the tile off quickly once you get the hang of the best angle to hold the chisel bit in relation to the tile. Seems about 45 degrees works best for me. Bit changing is easy as well. A tool like this may take a pounding so I recommend the two year replacement warranty which I think is a good deal if it breaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OldNavy from Amazing tool I had to put a hole into my solid concrete foundation for a stove that I was installing in my basement. I purchased the Bulldog and Bosch hammer drill bits and was amazed how fast and smoothly the tools worker. It took the drill approximately 35 seconds to make a 5/8 inch hole all the way through 9 inches of solid concrete. I did not have to put much pressure on the tool as it did all the work for me. I drilled about 25 holes and never dulled the bit. After drilling, I changed to the chisel to complete the project. Again, the tool did all the work with only moderate pressure. I completed everything in about an hour with breaks. If I had to use a hand chisel, I think I would still be there! Amazing and very smooth.

It also made drilling into concrete a breeze - almost felt like I was cheating. However, the depth gauge broke after only a dozen or so uses. The clip inside the handle which holds the rod just stopped holding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ecz1 from Did the job Had to break up a small area of concrete where roots had heaved it up at a commercial property (a few square feet about 2-4" thick). Would have taken me a couple of hours by hand or more; this had it broken to bits in about 20 minutes, no problem - two 5-gal buckets full of concrete pieces. I'm sure a larger rotary hammer would have gotten through it quicker, but for this sort of job this tool was exactly what I needed and it handled the task with no problem. I have not used it in rotational (drilling) mode as yet so cannot comment on its performance there, but in chipping mode for light concrete breakup task it worked perfectly. Good value as well as this has a bit more power (2.2 lb-ft) than many competing products costing a bit more. Note, don't push too hard - in use find a balanced point of light pressure where it works very efficiently, this is a key to getting it to work properly. Also instructions do not explain that to rotate bit alignment you must rotate selector to intermediate setting showing rotation icon, rotate bit to where you want it, then return selector to chipping setting - instructions do not cover this, had to figure it out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Gadget from Smooth as Butter I tried to use my RYOBI 18v Hammer drill for 5/8 inch holes in my garage floor just for yuks. After a lame attempt, I loaded the new bit into the BOSCH unit and it was night and day. The BOSCH hammered through the concrete like it was liquid. The RYOBI would have been fine for 1/4 inch holes, and I have used it for several with good results. The BOSCH really handles the bigger holes with authority. I'm very pleased.

I did not want to spend hours drilling holes for two cane bolts so after reading reviews, I thought I would try this. Totally exceeded my expectations. I have to install 4 more cane bolts so this was worth the expense.

With the "Bulldog Xtreme" I put 20 holes, 4" deep, in the same concrete in 20 minutes. It's all in having the right tool!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by DIYGuy from Blasts holes in concrete wall We have 8 inch thick concrete walls in our crawl space and needed to install vents. Not cinder blocks, solid 8 inches of concrete. Our house style really called for antique iron vents and grates, which have lots of curves in a relatively small area. A concrete saw was not the tool for this task, so I got this. By the way, I'm 68. Drilled 1/2 inch holes almost by itself. Connected the holes with a chisel bit and chipped the edges smooth enough. This thing is a very manageable beast. Beats the concrete, not you. Excellent tool. Industrial production quality.

I am a guy with a lot of “home projects.” The drill did not come with any accessories. The Lowe’s tool person or I should say kid did not have a clue about this drill. He did say repeatedly that I could always return it if it was not what I needed no questions asked. I read all the reviews on this website and watched many You Tube video about this product and or similar products. I could have bought a similar drill at harbor freight for half the cost but I believe you get what you pay for. I purchased this drill on a leap of faith based on these reviews. The drill did the job. The only down side to this drill is that you can only use SDS-plus® bits. I am only saying that as a downside based only on the cost of the bits and chisel. They work great with the drill. The directions for this drill are not great. Learning how to use the Vario-Lock™ positioning of the chisel can be frustrating but it is great when you figure it out. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. I am giving this drill five stars based on how easy it was to power through an 8” concrete retaining wall and how easy the chisle worked on cleaning out concrete crevasses.

The upgraded bits do provide better torque. It's not a negative critique per say, just an oversight. The outer packaging didn't have any stand out markings to initially catch my attention. That said, I drilled 48 3.5" Tapcon anchors in no time at all. The torque is great for any drilling needs.

I would check the chuck in store before you take home the tool if possible. I decided to avoid this model altogether.

I got through 6 of them with a hammer drill but each of them was taking 30 minutes to dril and i had to keep replacing bit because they kept getting worn down. Then I did some googling and found that I needed a rotary hammer drill to get the job done quickly. Wow, the Bosch bulldog is exactly what I needed. It went from 30 minutes per hole to 30 second per hole. Oh the hours wasted by not going out and purchasing this rotary hammer drill. It gets the job done fast!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Panamatom from Good Value I bought this product to punch two 10” diameter holes through a 4” concrete sidewalk to make concrete piers to support a deck. It did the job but the SDS chisel bit kept falling out. The there was also grease from the drill seeping onto the bit. That may have been a break in grease. All things considered, it did the job in a reasonable amount of time and effort and seems to held up well for future jobs.

Tried very heavy pry bar, nail puller and 2 lb hammer, looked at renting demo hammers. Found this about half way through the job. Did as much in one day as 2 weeks of using previous tools. It is still tough work, but this increases productivity by at least 400%. Worth every penny. Got a heavy duty flat chisel that is working fine.

I purchased this model about two months ago after sorting through some reviews - I have used it so far to drill mostly 3/16 and 1/4 inch holes of varying depths. After about 250 - 300 holes I can comfortably recommend this tool to others considering a purchase of a hammer drill. For the price point it works so well for the intended purpose. I found that using a fresh bit and giving the drill a break by pulling the drill out of the hole to clear the dust - especially on the deeper ones will ensure no problems when fastening. Note: I am an avid do-it-yourselfer who has purchased many many tools and sometimes you make a tool purchase and go "That was ok . . . and sometimes you go - What a great tool!! " It has performed very well so far. Great value!!

Had spent a good 30 minutes trying to drill 4 5/32" holes into some landscaping stone to mount a pedestal light using my old Dewalt 12V cordless drill with hammer setting and then a borrowed makita 18V cordless drill with hammer setting.. i was able to get about 1/4" deep for each hole in that 30 minutes. Splurged on this puppy and took it out tonight to give it a try. I drilled to depth for all the holes in less than 10 minutes. Took more time finding the extension cord, plugging it in and getting set up to use it. Would i recommend this rotary hammer? Hell ya! Easy to use. Great power. Like the depth guide. Looking forward to using it for more applications. Picked it up while on a sale of $70 off. Good sale
