I would like to purchase the cordless grass trimmer. I already have the ego lawn mower. I have a 56V battery. Will I need to purchase another battery or will the one I already have work with the grass trimmer?

Hello, The EGO 56V batteries are compatible with the other EGO 56V products and will operate all of the tools. The difference between the batteries are the capacity or run time. Thank you for your inquiry!

However, it does not cut thru all 1/4 plants, as I had hoped. On the downside, DO I HAVE A DEFECTIVE BATTERY OR CHARGER?!!! Every time I tried to charge the battery, 3 times so far, there is an ugly, strong, toxic, sickening, semi-sulfurous, poisonous type of smell emitted. I think this is the battery, but it might be the charger......................... IS THIS NORMAL, OR DO I NEED TO BRING IT BACK FOR A DIFFERENT BATTERY AND/OR CHARGER? I had to open all the doors and windows for over 3 hours, and still did not get rid of the smell for a couple of days.

My yard was bordering jungle status at the time of purchase. Assembly was easy, the 5.0ah battery charged quickly and I jumped into the task at hand. The unit equals my old Stihl in power and the ease of starting and stopping unmatched. I wish I'd switched to battery years ago. I don't have the strap yet, but had no issue (as a 64 yo woman) trimming my entire yard without fatigue. When I finished, the battery had lost just one bar of power. I've since purchased a blower and will add the lawn mower when the time comes to replace my gas model.

Yes, I have a lawn to maintain but I also have drainage ditches and fence lines which demand something other than a mower. The string trimmer handles this well except for two things … the string sold with the trimmer is weak and the 2.5 Ah battery is undersized. On recommendation of a law care specialist I use 0.95 round string. Amazing difference on durability and effective cutting! I already had four 5 Ah batteries so I switched to using them instead of the 2.5. Much more reasonable working time. Overall, good design and good product.

About an hour, working on a hill is about my limit in hot weather. I have lots of rock walls and borders that had become overgrown in ivy. This trimmer has made easy work at restoring their beauty. I find replacing the string a bit testy with any trimmer but this is by far the best I have ever had. My last purchase, another brand, was such a pain that I gave it away the first time the string needed replacing. Have since ordered your leaf blower and chain saw. I also have a wish list for more EGO products.

I read reviews on many different brands and the Ego was the highest rated. I purchased the Ego and I am very pleased with my decision. I have 3 acres to maintain. The Ego has as much power as most high end gas powered machines. The only difference is if you run out of "juice " you have to put it on charge instead of filling back up a tank with gas. Run time on battery is about a hour or so on my use. It will quickly charge back up if you need. If you looking for something to replace gas this is the one.

The head and line changing mechanism are new technology not only for EGO but the rest of the weed eater companies. If it's new technology to them naturally it's going to be new to the customer. Give it a chance. The first time I used it the string jammed and I had to pop the head. It wasn't easy. As I've gotten used to winding new line and popping the head I've gotten better and the jams are now few and far between. You could go to an Echo but then you have to deal with the new heads and the fact that it may not start. Hang in there with this product, it gets easier.

It makes yard work a breeze and a joy to use. It is well balanced and fairly light. I like the trigger throttle control which is good for trimming around tight areas. The power head is also easy to use. Some people have mentioned that turning the unit around for edging is cumbersome, this is not the case. It feels fine to turn the trimmer around for better cutting angles. The battery is also great and provides plenty of power to the motor. After clearing tall weeds recently, I did not encounter any that could not be tackled by this trimmer.

The string broke off and so we tried to get the spool cover off, but the tabs are too awkward to press. Even with two people, we couldn’t get the cover off. It went back in the box and back to Lowe’s. Make sure you try removing the spool cover before you buy it. I tried removing the one on the display model and it had the same issue. This will eventually alway be required on a trimmer and it should be easy to get off.

I decided to go electric after trying in vain to start my gas trimmer. It was much more aerobic exercise than I needed. The EGO ST1500-S is so convenient, quiet and has all the power I need. No more mixing oil and gas. When moving from one area of the yard to another I just release the switch and it stops (saving battery) unlike the gas powered unit which continues to idle. My only complaint so far is the overall length of the unit. It seems much longer than is necessary. I am 6ft. tall and I will adapt. Might be a problem for shorter people.

I started with the excellent blower, and was so thrilled with its performance that I didn't hesitate to buy the trimmer when my 10-year old gas one finally gave up the ghost. I have a corner lot with LOTS of trimming. It normally takes me 45 minutes to do just the trimming, and up to an hour if I skipped a week. I was a bit concerned about battery life, but since I had the extra battery from the blower, I figured I could make it work. On a normal, weekly schedule a single battery will do the job. I have had it go dead after 45 minutes, but that really is impressive. The circuitry keeps the trimmer running at full speed until the battery voltage drops below a certain point and just shuts off. That's a good feature to prevent damage to the battery. My only two complaints are related to the bump head. It can get dirty enough to prevent line advancement and tempt you to bump the head very hard. This can, and did, slightly bend the lightweight shaft. I bent it back without issues, and disassembled the head to clean it. It hasn't locked up since, so perhaps the dirt wore away enough plastic to decrease tolerances now. I also love the guard on this thing. It does a very good job of keeping things off of me that often used to draw blood.

I loved my husquavarna 225L, but after I got tired of mixing gas and having to run it dry at the end of the season I made the switch and haven’t looked back. The ego has so much torque. I love how it doesn’t big down when I run through a thick patch of grass. It also has enough battery to run for me to trim my half acre lot. I went soon after and bought the blower and motor and haven’t looked back on those either. I rarely write reviews but this thing is awesome!

About a month later we purchased the weed trimmer for me. It is so light compare to our gas trimmer, super easy to use all you do is press the buttons and you are on your way. Ow I don’t have to bother him to start it for me. Does a great job. Although I did notice the battery going down a little towards the end, but I had more them enough power to finish the yard plus it still had enough charge left to do more. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends who are looking to change out their old equipment.

It served me well. RIP. That said, the Ego is so much more refined and powerful. I esp. like how it runs at different speeds based on the load. In thicker weeds it puts out more torque and for basic trimming it saves power. Smart. Build quality is good too. I like the metal shaft and the .095 dual line.

Would def. recommend getting the fast load string attachment. Remember that 1 size battery does not fit all. The battery that comes with the trimmer will do about 30 minutes of regular run time or a small sized lawn. Anything bigger and you will have to invest in a bigger or multiple batteries. Tired of reading disgruntled reviews because of buying on a whim and not actually thinking about what they are getting. Only con is batteries are a bit pricey.

I have a battery powered hedge trimmer from a different company that I'm happy with so I decided to look at these trimmers since their weed eaters didn't suit me. The first time I used it until I was worn out and the battery still had power left. It's been really rainy so the weeds had gotten out of hand and it even whacked off the big weeds as good as a worn out Echo which surprised me. It's not light by any stretch but not having to crank it is what I like. It's quiet and powerful and just what I wanted. I highly recommend it.

The system has plenty of power (in my case) to cut through 10 inches of weeds. The bump head and the ease of reloading new string is a snap. Battery life based on the newer 2.5 mAh battery is great. The overall weight and balance is good and is easy to use for long periods of time.

Bought this brand after reading reviews. Assembly easy enough. Topped off the battery. Trimmed the yard, then put it to the test. Cut the whole back yard 4000 square feet. Using only the trimmer. Impressed. Now lets see how it holds up to the test of time. Shoulder strap attachment would be nice.

A great collection to our new Ego brand collection. Plus, it came with yet another battery; we are now up to four Ego brand batteries of varying strengths so we can keep them charged up for lengthier yard projects, or just to have on hand. Very handy, and honestly no more expensive than a new gas weed eater, especially with upkeep and filling the tank, so the lack of emissions and healthier output on the environment is truly valued in our household.

The gas ones worked fine, well sort of once i got them started. The hassle of the gas oil mix, the noise and the smell, not a chore i looked forward to. I was skeptical about a battery unit but after reading the reviews i thought i'll give it a try. I'm glad i did! This baby works like a champ. Tall grass no problem. Have never run out of battery charge and i have an acre of lawn. Truly plug and play. Heck my wife could use this, that however has yet to happen. This unit performs as good if not better that my last gas unit. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

Seriously, this thing is a beast, that 2.5amp hr batter runs a long time. I though it was dead once after 30 minutes of hard, full speed mode tearing through overgrown grass I let overrun cement pavers that extend my patio. Nope, it had overheated for a second in the hot texas weather and being ran non-stop for quite a while. Gave it only a few seconds break and it ran another 20+ minutes until I was done and still had plenty of juice to run my blower. This thing is great, the head lets out the string with just a slight tap on the ground. Love it!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by benji7 from Ease of use Bought this a couple weeks ago. Charges up very fast (about 50 mins as advertised). Does not run for 2.5 hours, at least the way I weed eat at full tilt. So that was misleading. If you were to run a mowing service, you'd need (I would think) 2-3 batteries. For trimming around my house however, this product is great and is way easier than mixing gas .The product is light weight and is no where near as loud as my previous gas model. It's so user friendly, my wife could even use this. I just hope reloading the string will be as they advertised.

Pushing in on the tab requires great finger strength which I don't have. Second, out of the box, the head was pre-loaded with string. When I tapped the head on the ground to get more string out, very little if any, after repeated taps, came out. I had to stop, and manually pull the strings out by hand to get any advancement. If I cant get this resolved I'll take it in for a refund. When it works it works nicely. I just have to stop very often to advance the strings.

This is not a toy like some battery operated equipment. Handled to worst of my weeds and brush easily. I did screw up a few times reloading the head and thought it was broken. Ordered a replacement head before realizing I just needed to unclip and re-string and wind up again. Keeping the extra head and ordered the shoulder strap because I love this thing. When the battery runs out it’s peobably time to take a break if you’re in hot sun. But if not it’s great to have an extra battery from another EGO machine or just a spare for bigger jobs. Highly recommend this item.

Battery went totally dead, charger could not sense battery while inserted into charger so then what, replace everything with better technology that’s what. I bought the Ego chainsaw so I had the battery and with this battery in my trimmer I can trim my front and back yard with no problem. We only have 1/2 and trim mostly grass but I can also do it at least twice. The Ryobi would be almost dead after one use. I hope it holds up and I don’t have battery issues like with the Ryobi. The manual says that I wont but I’ll still keep the fingers crossed!!

I'VE ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE BUMPING THE HEAD TO GET MORE LINE OUT. SO FAR ALL EGO WANTS TO DO IS INSTRUCT ME HOW TO USE THE TRIMMER & SEND ME A NEW SPEED RETAINER ASSEMBLY. NONE OF THIS HAS HELPED & NOW THEY WANT ME TO BUY AN AH1500 HEAD. I'M TIRED OF TRYING WHAT THEY TELL ME TO DO AS NONE OF IT WORKS OR SOLVES ANY OF THE PROBLEMS. I, ALSO, HAVE THE MOWER & THE HEDGE TRIMMER & BOTH ARE GREAT MACHINES. I'M HOPING SOMEBODY OUT THERE CAN HELP ME. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO A BLACK & DECKER.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Netsorc53 from Reload, reload, reload... Powerful, but God forbid you use this trimmer for edging grass along a hard surface such as concrete or brick. Once the string starts hitting the hard surface at all it wears down to nothing in about 10 seconds and you are left to load the string again using their janky loading system. My small yard required me to reload about 5 times even though I was trying to be careful. If you hit anything but soft grass, be prepared to reload and reload if you are not stopping every five seconds to check the length of the protruding string. This includes things like ivy or any plant harder than blades of grass.

It is well balanced, powerful and is unbelievably smooth at full throttle with barely any vibration throughout the shaft. I also own the 530 cfm blower and these two units are perfect for maintaining my 1/3 acre lot. I am able to trim around all of my landscaping and use the blower after mowing using just one of the 2.5 amp batteries without completely draining it of power. If I owned a smaller lot, I would definitely consider buying the EGO mower.

For a cordless, it has some decent whacking power, because I was dealing with four to five foot weeds. Although the two and a half amp hour battery, needed to be charged approximately three times before I was able to finish my task, it did the job well. I wish I had some more battery life to assist me, but the prices of the higher amp batteries are more than I can handle. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and it seems like a very quality item.

I was pleased with results. Not as powerful as gas trimmer, but powerful enough. Ran for 45 minutes, enough to get all trimmed. Without loading line in the middle of the job. Would recommend at this point, time will tell.

I only used 1/2 of the charge, so yesterday I did it the same thing again before cutting the lawn and there is still some charge left. I like the speed control and safety switch. I also like the quietness of this trimmer. I did thought it would be a little lighter than my old 4 cycle grass trimmer, but it feels just as heavy. It is really built solid and strong so keep that in mind. The tap to advance string works very well so I'm thankful for that. Since it's brand new I haven't tried to add more line yet so that's still a mystery to be discovered.
