Does it good for tall grass?

Asked by: Mishmish
I use this product mostly for edges; not on tall grass.  Since its an excellent trimmer, give it a try but go slowly to see how it performs.  I believe its meant to be used only for edge trimming.

Can. I use df065bkp duel spools witg this trimmer

Asked by: Bbob
This trimmer comes with single spool feed line, but even if black & decker do carry dual spools that hold 2 dual lines, the housing that holds the spool has only one outlet for the line. You would need a trimmer with 2 holes one for each line. I like single line spools cuz they do not cut so strongly but black & decker are one of the only trimmers that make a singe line trimmer, most all others are made to use dual line, from the lowest priced model avail at Lowes + other stores, up to more expensive models. Good luck, have a look at the selection of trimmers, that all indicate if they come with dual line.

Electric String Trimmer/Edger - 6.5 A - 14" is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 227.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Luckily I found it "open box"... Luckily I found it "open box" and paid only 1/2 price. Now I know why it was returned. I am 6 ft tall, and the trimmer is too short at it's fullest extension for me. Use it a bit and your back will dislike you. The trimmer itself is supposed to be auto-feeding the line, but doesn't always work. When it does, it eats line: I have an average house with fence, driveway, and sidewalk. The auto-feed ate through the line that came with it with it in about 10 minutes. I went back to the store and bought the "lower" priced 3-pack for $20. Thankfully I did. I finished the trimming with about 1/2 spool left. Already this trimmer is costing me more money than it is worth. I do not recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trimmer I bought this trimmer to do my whole yard since it was almost 11" high. I have a large yard and it did the whole thing, no problem, didn't even have to change the spool. I bought it because of the ratings others had given it and they were right. Terrific value, great price, no need to spend a $100 on a trimmer, this little one gets my vote!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from needed a trimmer I needed a trimmer that would last all day. This unit and a 3 pack of replacement spools, I had the area with hip high weeds done in three hours. I am impressed, did exactly what I was looking for. Loved the self feeding. I learned when I heard something different I would release the trigger and the trimmer would adjust to the correct length. Easy change spools. Light weight plastic but did good for 1/8 acre. 100' cord recommended. Never lost power only 6.5 amps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Automatic feed uses too much line I have used an old bottom-of-the-line electric Craftsman for over 10 years. The kind that you bump on the ground to feed the line manually. It never ran out of line on a 1/4 acre property with lots of concrete edges. The Black & Decker cuts way better, is more powerful, has the edger feature, and is very adjustable. The one problem? It uses 8x as much line as my old Craftsman that I had to manually feed. No joke. No exaggeration. 8x. It depleted the whole line 4x on my one yard. It takes too long to respool every 10 minutes and I'd have to start a new budget to buy enough line for it. I took it back to Home Depot. I'll be looking for a manual feed. My money is better spent on a nicer edger, not more line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for me! I am a 5'4 woman and this thing is great, not too heavy or cumbersome to use, powerful enough for normal single family home weeding / edging. love that it's electric, I don't have to worry about gas or the battery going dead. Great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trimmer for the value We've owned 5 different brand gas trimmers over the past 15-20 years. From gas problems, starting problems to lousy stringing problems, we were disgusted. From one season to the next, some would be hard to start when the season started. Others would suffer from use to use. They were heavy and awkward for my wife to use and basically not fitting our ongoing needs when my husband became disabled. We researched and bought this inexpensive corded trimmer, knowing we'd be lucky to get a season out of it for the price. The seasons will come and go but surprise, surprise, the little trimmer will still going strong. We feed it a new spool of string and it trims and trims like a champ. Very seldom have we found a product meeting and exceeding our expectations. Gotta love it! Thank you, B.D. and Lowes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product. I'm 6' 1''. I love the wheel attachment, it makes edging along hardscapes very easy, however I wish the shaft extended several more inches to accommodate my height. With that said I am very satisfied with the overall product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective design I've had two of these trimmers and both stopped working with the identical, (and hazardous), problem within a few months of purchase. In both cases the switch stuck in the open position. The trimmer could only be shut off by unplugging it. Plugging it back in started the motor running again even though the switch wasn't touched. Plus the motor started overheating and smoking. Fortunately this unit is still within Lowe's return time limit, so it's going back for a refund. Black & Decker needs to recall all of these trimmers and fix what is clearly a design issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loved it until it broke on 4th use Loved the design and features. Trusted the Black and Decker name and it worked beautifully until 4th use when it suddenly began to grind. Could hear something inside motor area rolling around when I turned it side to side (ball bearings?). Thank goodness Lowes is so good about returns. I was going to exchange for same model thinking I had just gotten a lemon. Changed my mind when the lady in front of me in line said same thing happened to her with exact same trimmer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for medium duty use. I chose this after reading reviews about how the 7.5 amp model may be too much for an average yard and I think it was the right choice. Had no trouble with the feed, which was mentioned in the reviews of the 7.5-amp. model. My yard is only about 200 square feet and power is more than adequate. Bear in mind that my last trimmer was an early-80's model, which, compared to this, weighed a ton and takes a good 2 minutes to adjust! This one adjusts (length, angle) in just a few seconds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised, which is all I ask I needed something to trim around my raised beds and fence, and no other type of product seemed suited to the task. Unfortunatley, I'm just no good at using these things. That said, this is pretty easy to operate. The trimmer was quick & easy to assemble. Directions for use are fairly clear. The handles adjust for height/comfort, and it's not too heavy. It handles heavy weeds, including the woody kind, and I really like that it automatically reloads the trimming string if it breaks. The guide wheel is a nice feature, too. If I ever get any good at using this - and this is a talent I just do not have - I'll probably appreciate it more. Howevwer, even on this long learning curve, my yard looks better for having purchased this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from weed wacker Good product and very easy on the pocket book. I would caution that when in edger mode if you come in contact with too much dirt the auto-feed string will let some out. Easy fix was to just cut the excess and finish the work. For the cost a little cutting is worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replacing string rather than spool for big savings This trimmer/edger is very good. Those that complain about excessive line usage and the cost of replacement spools should consider buying replacement line only. Package is sold for $7-$8 and contains 275 ft. of line. Simply cut 30" of the line and insert it into the spool. Replacing the entire spool cost 10 times as much and is completely unnecessary. As far as the excess usage is concerned, this may be so but it beats having to open up the bottom of the trimmer and manually pull the string forward several times. I have replaced the string on my trimmer several times on the same spool and have had no problems. If Lowes doesn't have the bulk string, get it at Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I am a single woman and I wanted an electric trimmer since I was sick of dealing with the gas ones. I read the reviews and decided to buy this one. I needed a trimmer that could cut thru some high weeds and small tree seedlings plus some heavy trimming. This trimmer did wonderful. It cut right through what I needed it to do. I did have to replace the string once but it was the easiest string replacement I have ever done. I love the auto feed, no tapping it on the ground or anything. The cord could get on your nerves but it is a corded trimmer after all. I would recommend this to anyone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from B& D always has great product not this one. The Black & Decker 6.5-Amp 14-in Corded Electric String Trimmer and Edger seems to be a good value for money trimmer. The only problem I see is not enough meat on the bottom of the trimmer base or cap that holds the cord in place. My wife is not a strong lady when trying to hold the trimmer off the ground, it becomes difficult even for me when I tried as well. The weight was good for the both of us to hold, power and the ease of replacing the trimmer cord. Until B & D decides to add more plastic or something to the bottom cap that holds the trimmer cord in place. I give this the thumbs down. By the way I check all other brands and they had the same problem too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Product This is a piece of junk. The automatic line feed is a big headache. If you hit the cement sidewalk or driveway while edging, it feeds out more line, then you have about two feet of line out then it breaks off. If you hit the fence or high grass while trimming, it does the same thing. I usually have to stop and rewind the spool several times before finishing the job. I called B&D to complain but they were no help. I would not recommend this tool to anyone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the Product but Disappointed in Quality This is the 3rd B&D String trimmer. I keep returning to this product because I like ease of use. Pre-packaged spools, easy switch for weed trimming to edging, and no bump spool advance. However, this time (I purchased the product in August) the string seems to be used up at an extraordinary rate. My trimming in my yard is the same for the last 17 years. A spool use to last at least through 2 separate mowings but now I go through 1.5 to 2 spools for EACH mowing. I contacted B&D to see if there could be an issue with the trimmer or the spools but they were of no help at all. Just wrote back that it has a 2 year warranty. I was disappointed in their response which proved of no help. However, I went to Lowe's to purchase more spools and the staff member I spoke with was very helpful. He agreed that the amount I was using for the size of yard didn't seem right, I told him I'd try one more time in case they were bad spools and he suggested I return it if I still had issues. I appreciated his response and helpfulness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black and Decker Quality The trimmer handles the toughest of jobs, especially whacking weeds along a chain link fence line. The .065" trim line broke only once in two days of heavy use. Excellent price, easy to use; no more rope yanking, gassing it up (or out of gas). The power cord is a relatively minor nuisance. Thumbs up!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy one! You'll return it. The corded, electric Ryobi we've had for eons died. Boo Hoo. So, I went to my trusty Lowes store (I love Lowes) and shopped. After waffling on whether this one would trim and edge my lawn and after hearing the sales pitch, we bought one. It looks and feels cheap and is inexpensive. That should have been a warning. It says it has an auto string thing that activates when the string needs to push forward. Sorry. This was a disaster. I put it together (easy) according to package diredctions, and I'm writing this after using it for the first time this evening. Trying to edge my driveway...the string broke or stopped 4 x in the stretch of 25 feet. The trimming thing was okay, but when you're outside - dirty and sweaty - you don't want to use multiple tools to simply edge and trim your driveway. They apparently don't make quality electric ones anymore...they're all battery or gas. Anyway, I took it back to Lowes in the middle of mowing/edging/trimming my lawn. Unless you live in Barbie's world, don't buy this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electric Trimmer Only used it once but am very satisfied with it. The ease of going from edger to trimmer was great and the automatic line feed was great. Did my whole yard without having to do anything to extract the line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Just smashed mine to pieces after another fruitless attempt to trim my borders. Line will not unwind from spool, tried multiple times but it either bunches up inside or just will not come out. Got more satisfaction from destroying it than I would getting my money back.Very poor useless product,I don't know where all the positive reviews came from.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Almost lasted a year I'm pretty sure my thought process for buying an electric corded weed trimmer went something like, "All I have to do is plug it in and click the trigger and it will just work. No maintenance, no hassle." Not the case. This piece of garbage broke in less than a year with only a few hours of use on it. Very disappointing product from Black and Decker.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for My grandmother bought this a few years ago because she was in her mid 80's and it was light weight and easy to use. That is all true. It is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. I have taken over the yard work and all I can say is this thing is so frustrating!!! It does not auto feed as it claims. I have gone through 3 new spools over the years and when they are brand new they auto feed for a couple times, then it just stops. You have to open it up and feed it yourself whenever the line breaks. I will say it has lasted for a long time unlike other reviewers who say it stops working. But the line is just maddening! I looked good at the last 2 and they are frayed every so many inches so it looks as if it was designed to break. It couldn't have been a manufacturer defect because it was on 2 different spools purchased months apart from different stores. I expected more from Black & Decker but, as I said, you get what you pay for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy To Use, Great In The Yard I would recommend this product. It was easy to set up (snaps together), and you are ready to go. A lot quieter than gas models, however the only thing you have to get used to is dragging an extension cord along behind you, and not getting it tangled in sprinkler heads, corners of brick work or other obstacles. A little bit of a hassle at first, but you get used to it, since this was my first electric model. Great to not have to hassle with gas/oil mixtures anymore. The line, which is a single line spool works great. I would buy it again. Replacement spools come in 3 packs. I got about 10 uses before I had to change a spool of line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Auto feeding stopped working shortly after use. I bought at the end of last season. Took it out this season and it stopped auto feeding. It did not last thru the original spool of line. Junk! Black and Decker used to be good enough stuff, it's sad.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 14-in Electric String Trimmer - Trimmer Cap This an excellent string trimmer - except for one problem................. The plastic trimmer cap constantly wears out because of continually contact with the ground, etc. It costs about $5.00 to replace it every month or so...... Tell the folks who make these trimmers to PLEASE use a more DURABLE material for the trimmer cap. Otherwise....... it is a good trimmer for the price..............
