This 17.3 cu. ft. upright freezer from GE is proven to perform at room temperatures ranging between 0°F and 110°F (-17.78°C à 43.33°C), which makes it perfect for a garage. It features an audible alarm that alerts you if the door is left open or if the temperature rises. Slide-out freezer bin and removable shelves let you customize storage to optimize space for bulky items. Electronic controls are located on the outside of the appliance to easily adjust the temperature without having to open the door, while the Turbo Freeze function releases an extra boost of cold air to restore the temperature and keep food fresh. This is the perfect freezer to add extra items like meat when it is on sale and a few batches of soup made in a large batch that can be added to the freezer in mason jars. This will ultimately help save money because you can purchase what you use regularly when it is on sale or do a special order of beef from the butcher or private party. It closes tightly and even when it is humid outside, it does not frost up on the inside. I got the recommendation from my parents who have the same model and both of us are very pleased with this appliance. I would recommend to a friend easily. I did purchase this online but I did see it in use first at my parents' home.

Rated 2 out of 5 by depitt6 from Disappointed so far While the garage ready feature is very nice, this model has a few flaws that are major. First, while it says it is 17 cubic ft, the interior is measurably smaller than the 30-year-old 17 cubic ft Gibson freezer that this GE replaced. Second, the shelves are very weak and bend in the middle without being full or loaded with meat. I didn't have that problem with the Gibson even with meat from 1/2 a cow. Third, when you open the door, the whole freezer slides on the cement, even with food in the freezer. I had to put rubber on the front legs to stop the sliding. I'm hoping it will last 30 yrs like my old Gibson, but I doubt it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by J 2 J from Meets our needs. Although we have only had the freezer for 3 weeks it is working fine. One slight problem, the door is a bit difficult to open since apparently a vacuum is created inside the freezer after the door is closed. As such, when enough force is used to pull open the door the entire freezer moves forward. To keep this from happening we put one hand on the body of the freezer to keep it from moving while pulling open the door. This is somewhat awkward to do but is better than having to reposition the freezer every time we open the door. Other than that inconvenience, we have no complaints during our three weeks of ownership.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JD889 from Great Freezer Well. It's a freezer. It Freezes food. When you open the door there is a turbo freeze that kicks in to bring it back to the set temperature quickly. One thing that always drives me crazy is a weak magnetic seal. Not this freezer. I had a hard time opening the door when empty, it pulls the entire freezer with it. Loaded up is fine. The walls, door and top are thick. I like the fact that the handle is built in and doesn't stick out. I hated snagging stuff or bumping things into it. So far it's a great freezer. I like the layout. Strong metal shelfs. I would have went with the larger one but it wouldn't fit. I've had good luck G.E. so far. Hope it lasts a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ElayneV67 from Great freezer We purchased this back in July. The first one came damaged so they ordered a new and let us use the damaged one until the new arrived in January. This was all due Covid and out of the companies hands. The freezer gets up to temperature very fast. I like the alert sound that is loud enough to hear inside the house from the garage. It can be turned off to silent until the freezer gets up to temperature. I saw some people’s review about that but it detailed in the user manual. I like that the shelves on the door can be removed and that they are full shelves. It keeps same bag items from falling through them like our other freezer. So far the freezer was well worth the wait.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Frozen1 from Adequate freezer for garage Freezer appears to work well. Initially about 24 hours after it got cold it shut down and warmed up. Reset of power restarted it and it has worked fine since. Alarms on door and temp are worthless for older men with minor hearing loss as alarms are very high frequency sounds not heard. The on door temp display is temp at inside back panel, not ambient temp inside freezer so it displays 5 degrees colder than actual air temp in freezer. Wire shelves and basket allow good air flow.

Rated 3 out of 5 by hsmom from Shelf Issues I purchased this upright freezer to use in my garage. All seemed well upon delivery until we started to put things on the shelves. Items regularly slide off the shelves onto the floor. So far nothing has hit my feet, but I am concerned that one day it could. I plan to buy some plastic containers to hold things so they can't slide as easily. I haven't had this problem with other freezers I have used. And I did check the leveling - it is level. Otherwise, the cooling seems to be effective, which is the most important factor. I find the beep whenever I open the door a bit annoying, but I do not open it often enough to let it bother me too much. The bottom drawer feels cheap and does not open easily.
