Outdoor sectional sofa

In collaboration with Reno-Depot, I present my latest Do It Yourself project. It’s a very simple project to make considering it takes very little tools and materials to create it. In this article, I will explain how to make this sectional sofa, step by step, and tell you the measurements we used to finish it.

1
Prepare the pieces

  • 1.1Measure and cut the pieces of treated wood for the first couch.
    • 9x - 2" x 4" x 6'
    • 6x - 2" x 4" x 28 ½"
    • 9x - 2" x 4" x 25 ½"
  • 1.2Measure and cut the pieces of treated wood for the second couch.
    • 6x - 2" x 4" x 6'
    • 3x - 2" x 4" x 70 ½"
    • 4x - 2" x 4" x 28 ½"
    • 7x - 2" x 4" x 25 ½"
    • 1x - 2" x 4" x 12 ½"

2
Build the first couch

  • 2.1To make the base, assemble 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 6 ft (horizontal pieces) with 5 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 25 ½ in (vertical pieces).
  • 2.2To make the arm rests, assemble 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 28 ½ in (vertical pieces) with a third piece of 2 in x 4 in x 28 ½ in (horizontal flat piece on the top), to form the base of the first arm rest. Then, screw 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 25 ½ in (horizontal piece) at 14 inch from the ground. Redo step 2.2 to have your second armrest.
  • 2.3To assemble the base and arm rests, screw the arm rests to the extremities of the base at a height of 12 and a half inches.
  • 2.4To set the back piece, screw a 2 in x 4 in x 6 ft piece between the 2 arm rests. It is possible to double it to ensure better back support.
  • 2.5To make the sitting bench, screw 6 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 6 ft on the base of the couch and space out the pieces evenly, to make a comfortable sitting area.

3
Build the second couch

  • 3.1To make the base, assemble 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 70 ½ in (horizontal pieces) with 5 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 25 ½ in (vertical piece).
  • 3.2To make the first arm rest, assemble 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 28 ½ in (vertical pieces) with a third piece of 2 in x 4 in x 28 ½ in to form the base of the arm rest. Then, screw 2 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 25 ½ in (horizontal pieces) at 14 inches from the ground.
  • 3.3To assemble the base and arm rests, screw the arms rests to the extremities of the base at a height of 12 and a half inches.
  • 3.4To add legs, screw a piece of 2 in x 4 in x 12 ½ in at the front left extremity of the base as well as a 2 in x 4 in x 28 ½ in piece at the back.
  • 3.5To make the back support, screw a piece of 2 in x 4 in x 6 ft in between the back leg and the arm rests.
  • 3.6To make the seating area, screw the last 2 in x 4 in x 70 ½ in piece at the bottom of the base, between the left leg and the arm rests. Then, screw 5 pieces of 2 in x 4 in x 6 ft on the base of the couch by spacing the pieces evenly, to ensure a comfortable seating area.
