Nope, there is no separate light source. But the heat element emits nice light that you would not need another light source when used as a heater.

Can I use a plug-timer with this hanging heat lamp? ie., if I pull the cord to turn it on (while plugged in), will it still be set to 'on' after the power supply is shut off and then turned back on? Thx.

Yes it’s a mechanical switch so it will stay on until you pull it.

Does anyone have any feedback regarding use in a garage?

This hester is for outdoor use so presume is not intended for internal environment including a garage. Would be surprised if such use would meet fire code requirements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by pStac from Works well but limited range Bought this a few weeks ago and it has made sitting on the patio on cool spring evenings bearable. Even on the high setting though, there's only so much heat that it can put out from a 15 amp circuit. On windy days, most of the heat was blown away, but that's expected. I ended up hanging it pretty low over the centre of the table so the heat can be felt and just need to figure out an easy way to lift it up higher once the weather warms up. I'm glad we bought it and would do it again (on sale of course ;) ).

When all twelve of us are having a family get together we just turn them on in the cooler evenings and the party continues! Very easy to install...just hang (swag chain is included), plug in and pull the string to turn on.

If you had a couple of them over your patio table it might give off enough heat to keep you warm if there is no wind but if the temperature is anything lower than about 10 degrees Celsius you’re not going get much use from it.

Yesterday October 22, I was outside and used it and with my jacket on and was comfortably warm in fact I completely forgot that it was end of October and was outside at night for about 2 hours! I like that it’s not just a heater but also a light. Great purchase, happy I made it

We have it hung in our gazebo over our table and it gives off some heat but only to a radius of 6 feet but not enough to keep you warm. If the temp goes below 60F you might as well turn it off. It gives off a very bright light for reading though.

Will see how the winter goes but adds another sitting area outside! Didn’t think we’d use it as much as we do! So far,so good!

Easy to hook it up with the chain supplied. plug-in to standard outlet and turned it on. You can feel the warmth almost right away.
