Does the Heartland make 8x12 shed? I need 8 wide by 12 long

Asked by: MM2108
The base is not quite 8’X12’. Find the instructions for exact measurements.
Answered by: Vivkent

My shed base is 12’ wide as opposed to the 141” required. Would any experts out there recommend trimming the side wall panels 1” (length of skirting) or installing all wall panels flush to the floor (no skirting on all walls)?

Can the door be installed on the left side and the window on the right?

Asked by: Green245
I don't think so. The wall panels are pre-cut for a specific arrangement of the window.

Would it be possible to add wood floor after the fact

Asked by: Buddykate
This needs to be built on the wood base including plywood that is not included.  Yes wood flooring can be added after building but it does require the plywood floor to be built first.

Would adding a couple roof vents be advantageous ?

Asked by: Striker19
Absolutely! Had mine for just about a year and given some of the heatwave days we have had recently, the shed is worse than a sauna. I plan to put a couple in as soon as I have a chance myself.

Heartland Stratford 12-ft x 8-ft Wood Shed with Workshop and Window is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 565.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from pretty good shed kit went together pretty well. The wood wasnt any worse than you get at the lumberyard, you have to be selective as to what goes where when you build. I did buy extra 2x3's before hand beacuse I wanted to add extra wall studs and supports for the trusses, so I was able to be selective with the wood that way. My advise is to buy descent screws before you start. Get #8 woodscrews with the robbie head. The ones provided in the kit are all phillips head and can cause you a lot of grief. They are almost tight, then the head starts skipping... frustrating. great kit though, once I went with the robbie screws, life went well :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had Lowes build it! I waited for a great sale and also a sale on the delivery and installation which save me $800 plus tax. My family said they could help me build it however I watched online videos of people trying to build it and generally people who knew what they were doing still had trouble with it. I didn't want to wait 3 to 4 days and frustrate everyone so the experience Builder did it in 6 hours and I am happy happy happy. This picture shows that it hasn't been painted yet I'll be doing that next. When you pay for the install delivery you also get free shingles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this shed. But I bought this on sale. The kit comes nicely packed. I would recommend. Separate your wood into relevant piles. Not all the wood is labeled. Read the instructions over and over. The wood I received, five pieces were twisted. So check your wood. I had to purchase more wood. Annoying and costly. The floor doesn’t come with the kit so account for that. I am a novice so it was challenging.Took me several weekends. You will need help as its heavy. Framing was hard, Especially with wood that was twisted. ( I informed the company no response). On sale plus the extras ($550). it is a great shed. Not on sale with the added extras, floor extra wood etc. I would not have bought it. Now its built. I really like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 stars from the perspective of a skilled handyman I am at the end of my 2 month build journey so I figured I would leave a review. First it only took my 2 months as I was working on it in between caring for a newborn and a lot of work travel. For one person I would say this shed is about 4-6 days of solid work to do it right. Right off the bat I should say this is definitely not for the unskilled if you want a great result. I could see someone with basic DIY knowledge getting it together, but there would be deficiencies. If I didn’t know what I was doing I would have probably rated the kit 2 or 3 stars. Positives: - Very sturdy despite not looking it from the framing, I think almost every component contributes to the structure so that’s why. - Good value for money, I could not have bought all this lumber and hardware for $999 on a no tax weekend - Nice wide door - nice integrated shelves and workspace - Instructions were clear Cons: - Came with foundation framing, but it was 2x4s. I would not do a 8x12 shed with 2x4s. I bought 2x6s to make my own foundation. - the warps in some of the 2x3s were pretty bad and I had to buy a couple replacements (cost was negligible) - They expect you to use nails in some difficult places. I used screws instead for some things so I would plan to buy some 2” and 3” screws. Notes: - Plan to spend at least another $1000 on a good foundation, floor, paint, shingles and incidentals. - I painted mine to match my house and also painted the door inners black and the trim white. It’s a good looking colour scheme - I also installed solar power for lights since it is at the end of my yard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shed Just finished assembling the shed and painting it. Strongly suggest painting front panels and doors before adding trim. Would also have added more of an overhang on the roof. We added a few extra 2x4 bracing boards for shelves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shed Thought I would write a lengthy review to help you out if you are thinking of building this shed. I am NOT a skilled tradesman by any means, so this is from the perspective of a layman: 1. Read the instructions fully before you start. And I mean all the instructions, front to back. It will really help you plan out the project. 2. Plan on this taking at least a couple of weekends. It took me about 40-50 hours single handed (just a bit of help from my kids where I needed two sets of hands). 3. Check all the parts. Do a full inventory and make sure you have everything before you start. I had one damaged piece and when I called the company they shipped it to me. I live in Canada so it took a while but did get here eventually. 4. Paint the panels first. You’ll have to do some touch-ups after, but that’s way easier than having to paint once it is built. You can just use a roller and go quick without having to do the edges with care. 5. The floor is not included. I raised my floor using the 4x4 runners as suggested in the instructions. (picture). If I was doing it again I would use three 4x4 runners – I’ve used two and it’s fine but one more would be great. Raising it has really helped with making sure the floor doesn’t get wet and rot. 6. The floor and the roof are the most critical parts – make sure to do them with extra care. If you mess up these parts it will ruin the project. Make sure the floor is level, and make sure the roof panels are square. Can’t overstate how critical this is. 7. Plan on $300-$400 in extras – floor, shingles, roof felt, roofing nails, drip edge, paint. 8. Buy extra 3” and 2” screws – I used screws for all the framing partly because it was easier versus hammering everything, but also for strength.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new shed/ workshop I bought this shed on a Sunday and had it installed a few days later on the Thursday. I absolutely love it. I opted to have it professionally installed, a lone worker had it built in just over 6 hours. I would definitely recommend it. Built well and looks amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice job. One man crew. Our builder worked hard on his own without an assistant and built the entire shed in a few hours with no break. He did inform me that he could have refused the job because though the site was adequately cleared there was a chance of poison ivy. I told him I hadn't seen any but to wear gloves and wash his clothes well just in case. Well after the job was complete I went to fill out the gravel around the building and did not wear gloves as I normally do and sure enough I got poison ivy! I hope and pray that our builder Francesco did not get any poison ivy! Our shed looks nice and seems to be on the level. We are happy with it. Thank you!
