Description

The Honeywell T5 thermostat with flexible programming provides great energy savings and a comfortable home. With a 7-day schedule (5-2 days), or weekly programming, it automatically transitions from heating to air conditioning and vice versa. In the event of a power outage, this device retains your program in memory. The thermostat can installed as a battery-powered or wired unit. It is equipped with a low battery warning, a 12 or 24-hour time display and a sleek touchscreen with cool blue backlight for easy reading of temperature and humidity levels. The clock is connected in real-time and automatically adjusts for daylight savings time, while the smart response learning system analyzes your selections and provides the right heating or cooling temperature at the right time for you. Rated 3 out of 5 by Tuttle84 from No Temp Offset Quality unit with clear install instructions. Small footprint replaces my much larger and yellowing old Honeywell thermostat. However, this T5 reads the temp higher than actual by about 2 degrees. That is a problem because my programed heat range is only 3 degrees which is very misleading for us and we must keep another thermometer nearby for the actual inside temp. Complicates programing too because the temp error has to be accounted for. Other Honeywell thermostats have temp offset features, even the simplest manual units have temp trim screws. That missing feature cost the T5 2 stars and any product recommendation from me!

I have an older system, and the previous thermostat was difficult to read. I had no trouble at all with installation, took me about an hour, and the product works great! Easy to read, logical and user-friendly setup, works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by wildcats from Works well, easy to install, excellent directions This T5 thermostat replaced an old Honeywell Chronotherm III. I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. We recently replaced a furnace with a new Bryant two stage, 96% efficient furnace and this thermostat works well with it. The display is clear and easily readable. If you have a "C" wire connected to the thermostat you will be able to have the back lighting on continuously. This can be set under item 1401 on the setup. Some reviews mention problems with connecting with a phone app or internet connection. That does not apply to this thermostat. It does not have WiFi capability (which I am glad it doesn't. I don't want critical items like a furnace being reliant on having an internet connection). People mentioned that the temperature was off. I measured the temperature at the top of the thermostat with an infrared pyrometer (infrared thermometer) and when the temperature displayed on the thermostat was 69 degrees the infrared thermometer showed 68.5 degrees. The suggestions I have to make the installation go smoothly: 1) The instructions are well written. Follow them carefully. Take a photo of your existing wiring. Note how many wires you have in your existing system. Our 50 year old thermostat wire was only 5 wires. For our furnace you need 6 wires (2 for each of the heating stages, 1 for cooling since we only have a single stage AC). I ran new thermostat wire ( 8 wires) to accommodate the new furnace and to "future proof". Our AC is newer but when it wears out and needs replacement we anticipate getting an AC with at least two stages. This would require an additional wire for a total of 7. Note that internet connected thermostats may only need four wires. 2) There are many options after doing initial setup. These can be accessed by holding the menu choice button for 5 seconds. For example, to continuous back lighting on you need to set it under item 1401 as I noted above. The manual lists all of the possibilities on pages 9 and 10. 3) Some people mentioned that you couldn't do a "hold temp" for a vacation. This is detailed on page 14 of the manual under "permanent hold". This is somewhat of a misnomer since it is not permanent. You just have to touch the permanent hold on your return and then Run Schedule. I think Honeywell should rename it "vacation hold". Overall, a well designed thermostat. Doesn't have an internet connection but that is precisely what I wanted.

Most of the reviews I see are from people who did not know how to actually get into the setup section in the stat. From what I have seen and been able to do with this stat is incredible for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dmg93 from Nice thermostat I bought this T5 to replace an 18 year old Honeywell programable that was beginning to show signs of age. This was easy to install (only have 2 wires on my forced hot water oil system), took about 15 minutes, and programming was pretty user friendly. Allows for weekday and weekend programming which was a feature I was looking for. Seen some reviews complaining about the temperature reading being off, haven't experienced that personally, and if so I would just set to my comfort level and be done. I do not have a C-wire so utilize the four batteries for power, so far so good. Learning curve for use is not steep, after a few minutes of playing around had it figured out. Looks more modern (and smaller) than the old one, happy with the purchase/

Rated 1 out of 5 by S Cushman from Interior temp reading inaccurate While setting up the settings before any install found the display reading inaccurate. Compared with the reading on the digital Hunter that it is replacing. Replacing the Hunter due to faulty A/C circuit in the circuit board. Thought I would try this one due to the Hunter model is no longer made. Used the same calibrated digital thermometer in the picture I use on HAVAC systems to check readings at the Hunter and both readings match. Read reviews on this Honeywell model and found that tech support advised another customer that they will read 4 degrees off which is unsatisfactory with any product. Also found another customer with temp readings inaccurate and using a separate thermometer to control temperature settings. Also found that the cycle settings for the A/C is 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off with different setting for the max number off times it will cycle with in an hour only. Do not need it cycling on/off every 10 minutes like another customer issue has. Put product back in the box to send back and looking for another thermostat likely a newer version of a Hunter due do reviews found so far on this site for other models. My A/C is still working just can not lock the Hunter thermostat on to the wall plate causing a faulty connection.
