Does it get hot to the touch anywhere?

The only place this stove gets hot to the touch, not surprisingly, is directly in front of the heating element when it's blowing heat. The element glows orange and the fan kicks in, so you always know when the heat is on (which can be set to "always on" or thermostatically controlled, cycling on and off ). All other surfaces stay cool to the touch, regardless of the heater being on or off. I've had this fireplace for a year and absolutely love it!

Can you turn off the flame light and still have heat? How dim does it get in brightness? I have another heater I run at night and it's very bright.

Yes.. You can turn off the light entirely or dim it, there are several settings to choose from. There's a control button on the unit and on the remote control.

Yes it does but the heat has to be adjusted from the front panel, the remote only turns the heat on and off.

Had it running in my TV room for a few hours until I could smell plastic burning....the plug appeared to be drawing more power than the average appliance and started to melt. Was seconds away from starting a fire and burning my house down had I not followed my nose to the source.

Because it is an infrared fireplace, it keeps body mass warm, instead of the entire room. In this sense, it is efficient because you can feel the heat instantly shortly it is on (versus waiting for the entire room to heat up). It is good to keep in mind, however, at the end of the day, this is still an electric heater and will contribute largely to your hydro bill. For me, I only use it when really needed too. But it is a beautiful functional and decorative piece.

I plan to use it to supplement my gas furnace heating, and save some dollars by not jacking up the heat past 68° f. The heater has a better than most 3D flame effect. I rated it 4 stars only because it could have been a bit bigger in size and the fact that I have not had it long enough to speak about it's performance after 1 year.

The frame looks good, the fan is quiet too. I like it very much, one suggested improvement is: the heater should have better temperature range setting

Rated 5 out of 5 by dexxter28 from love it Love it I have central heating so temperature is not constant this gives a warm feeling throughout bought 2. As for electric bill unsure as of yet and i'm sure it's not the cheapest thing to run but when it's -30C for weeks on end i prefer to b warm.

My house is new, and the basement is well insulated. I noted the humidity went down with this product which surprised me, I thought it was supposed to be a moist heat. And it does not really heat the basement through. Maybe the product is defective. But because it was clearance, the sale is final. I am really surprised with this product.

Our unit is 2 years old and needs a heating element and they are no longer available for this unit ( DFI-5010-01). It's too bad because we really like this electric stove but it's of no use.
