can you use 16ga in this model

Asked by: john trot
Hi there. This is an 18-gauge brad nailer so it only accepts 18-gauge brad nails. Hope this helps.

Do the nails have to be made by Hitachi and are there any other brands recommended?

Asked by: jackie272727272727
I have this nailer and bought nails from other brands and they work just fine. Good luck.

Metabo HPT Pneumatic Stripe Brad Nailer - 5/8-in to 2-in is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 940.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great nailer for the price This is the first air nailer I've ever purchased and I am quite pleased with performance so far. The tool is lightweight and very easy to handle for my little hobby projects I build. I've only ran one package of brads thru it so far but its performed flawlessly and not a single jam or double feed yet. Have no problem with air leaks around trigger either. I do have air/water separator incorporated into my air line to extend life and oil nailer before each use which also helps. I've heard Hitachi was a good brand and I'm finding that to be true. Very happy with this purchase and sure beats having to always reach for the hammer. Real time saver!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprised I bought this gun after disasterous results with the Bostitch version. I had to finish a job so I needed something in a hurry after my Senco of 25 years bit the dust. After two days of constant nailing this gun performed flawlessly. It never bent a nail or jammed. It is easy to use, load, adjust, and the ergonomics are very good in the hand. For half the price of other nailers this was a GREAT buy. Plus it shoots up to a 2" nail compared to most other finish nailers at 1 1/2". Now, if it will last half as long as my Senco I will be happy. It seems to be well built with lightweight metal parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why did I wait so long? My first pneumatic nailer. Why did I wait so long? I nearly avoided this one because of reviews that it was loud. Meadow muffins. It scared the dog but didn't seem to bother me or my wife. Good nailer at a great price. Used several sticks of nails (Bostich) without a single jam or misfire. Would have been nice if it was angled (for crown molding) but for less than $60 that would be asking a lot. Perfect for a homeowner. Don't forget to buy the little bottle of oil (Bostich). My only suggestion would be to redesign the case so that it easily holds an oil bottle and box or two of brads. But that's nit-picking. Uses hardly any air so any compressor capable of 70 psi should work. Highly recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in this one I have a Hitachi 16ga 2 1/2" finish nailer but needed a smaller gun to replace an old HF brad nailer. I expected this to work as well as my other Hitachi but it hasn't. It will fire out about 2 nails, then nothing. Lots of indents in my wood but no nails. I have to open the slide then reposition the nails and close it back. 2 more nails, then repeat. I am using Hitachi nails in a Hitachi gun so that shouldn't be the problem. I'm going to stick with it for a couple more days but I think this may be going back to the store. I wish I had read all the reviews before purchasing but I was drawn in by the low price and past performance of my other Hitachi nailer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good nail gun except the magazine I use my tools everyday ( cabinet installation and finish carpenter), so I need tools that wont slow me down by stopping to adjust or fix a jammed tool. My experience with the Hatatchi 2" 18Gauge nail is this: the nail gun works great but the magazine ( made of plastic needs to be refined, it has too much play in where the spring loaded mechanism tends to not stay behind the nais and slide up besides the nails wich in effect stops the nails to be advancing into place so the next nail can be shot. this results in stopping and opening the nail gun and resetting the magazine only to get about 5 or 6 more shots before it happens again.. I took the gun back to Lowes ( bought the replacement gaurentee) they replaced with no problem only to experience the same problem with the new nail gun..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from first nail gun The other reviews of this product were varied. I decided to take a chance because of price. Wanted this gun to put up paneling in my basement and to install all of the trim. I didn't want to spend over a hundred dollars on a gun I will likely not use much after this project. I have gone through about 1000 nails with no misfires and the gun seems to be working well. I am using a large compressor with the pressure to the gun set at about 70lbs. I have not had to make any adjustments to the gun. When I switch to longer nails I assume I may need to.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from its an ok nailer I purchased this product to hang trim in my kitchen and it worked well. I would say after about a box of brads(500) it started to jam and eventually a jammed nail shattered the sliding nail door and I had to return it. Im not saying its a bad nailer because it did exactly what I wanted it to do, but the plastic sliding nail door is to be desired. They could have engineered that better, maybe with a metal lining on the inside or something to keep nails from shooting out and shattering the door.
Date published: 2011-03-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Almost works okay The brads get jammed in the feeder track after every 2-3 brads. I have to open it and un-jam the remaining brads every time this happens, which makes for a VERY frustrating, VERY slow process. Making it even more fun is that because the nailer still gouges the wood when it's jammed, you can't really tell then the brads are stuck unless you open the feeder to check or the pieces you thought you were securing fall apart. Every other function of the nailer seems to work perfectly fine.
