If I used this soil for my raised vegetable garden, is it okay to be left in for the following years?

You can reuse your soil but you will need to add fertilizer etc each year as the nutrients will have been used up the year before. I reuse my soil and have had no problems. I use ProMix products, usually, and just add in my fertilizer each year as well as perlite and vermiculite and some compost.

324 CUBIC feet (cu ft) = 9174.66. For every foot high you need 82 bags. For every INCH HIGH, you need 7 bags. You can probably get away with 6 inches of soil and pack the rest with organic scraps, peat moss, etc. Watch some videos on youtube before spending $2k per foot.

Hi there, according to the information that I have read about this product, it does contain cattle manure compost, along with the peat moss and some other ingredients, but I don't see anything stating vermiculite. Information from the Pro-mix website says: Canadian sphagnum peat moss (60-75%) Peat humus Perlite Gypsum Limestone (for pH adjustment) Organic fertilizer Mycorrhizae - PTB297 Technology

Hello Kirshy, If you are growing vegetables and or herbs in your raised beds then this is a perfect mix for you. It is a special blend specific to vegetables and herbs and made with only natural ingredients and contains an organic fertilizer that is OMRI Canada Certified. The bale is 2.2 cu ft compressed which means it opens up to 4 cu ft. If you wish to have the raised beds to solely contain PRO MIX Veg and Herb mix, you would need a total of 4 bales between the three beds. Can you use this to plant trees in a container?

Hi, I would not use this type of soil to plant a tree in a container. there is special for container planting called Container soil. this type of soil drains better and does not clump together when wet like soil that you use in the garden.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Derek John from All-around excellent This is the highest quality bagged soil I have ever purchased, and have been successfully growing my own crops & a wide array of houseplants for years. I bought one of these for potting in containers and it works like a charm, so I bought several more. Just have some vermiculite (Pro-Mix makes a great one) or compost (I wish they had one!) handy if you need to increase or decrease porosity. I also planted a few rows of sunflowers, tomatoes, cauliflower, and peppers (a few kinds) directly in the ground with this soil; I would highly recommend mixing this with some sort of compost if using this in the ground to increase water retention (shrimp compost is my favourite for the added calcium boost to further aid in the establishment of roots). I found if my gardens went a few days without rain, this soil tended to dry out within a day or two (which in my opinion is a much easier problem to solve than soggy soil and roots, so I'm perfectly fine with that). Just make sure you stay on top of your watering, or install an automated system. I even tried it for germinating seeds this year (didn't even have to add vermiculite) and had a success rate of 97% (to be honest, I think I was responsible for the one that didn't grow, not the soil...pretty sure that seed was dead before I planted it). Only thing that would make it a 5/5 was if they subbed out the peat for coconut coir. I am aware that they can farm peat "sustainably" (still doubtful) but it's still a naturally occurring thing that needs to be harvested, thus, disruptive to the planet. Coconuts can be grown in plantations and harvested with ease; much smaller impact on ecosystems. This would however ruin their "made in Canada" status as coconuts obviously can't grow in Canadian weather.

Used this soil to make some garden beds and for growing vegetable seedlings indoors and the relatively fine grain and organic matter has been great for our seedlings! I am sure it will also be excellent outdoors in our beds. No complaints!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Garden good from Terrible product as it contains wood chips!! I bought this product specifically for indoor use starting my plants for the garden. I read all the listed ingredients and there was no listing of wood or wood chips or bark. These are a source of fungus gnats and are impossible to get rid of once they emerge from the wet wood. I was very disappointed to see the soil contained wood chips and so I took out all of the pieces I could as I filled pots. I used about 1/10 of the bag and I have over 1 cup of wood chips. This is not a quality product. When I wrote to the Promix people, they thanked me for my comments and told me to remove the wood chips by hand. No apology or regret. I will be returning the bag to the garden center.

I've been using this over a few years now and previously I had thoughts that I wasn't getting 112L as specified but until today I couldn't be sure. I used all of the two for a total of 224L, putting it in 3 tubs rated at 17g/64.4L each for a total of 193L. However, that means I should have had 31L left over, but instead, it hasn't even filled each tub to the top. I used the calculations for cylinder volume, using the diameter of the tub at the halfway point as the sides are sloped and came up with 64.3L (rounded to 1 place) so the tube is basically the size it's supposed to be. That leaves the only other thing to be wrong is the volume of the product in the promix bale. Just to be really sure, I went through each, making sure there was NO compacted pieces left to throw off the determination. So, while I really like the product, I DON'T like the fact I've found I'm not getting as much as I thought I was.
