Random Orbit Sander - 5" is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the price The sander is good for the price. There is no little switch to turn get it going. The entire top black part that is under the palm is pressed down to sand something. If you are sanding a horizontal surface it works really well to distribute pressure evenly and there is a lock switch to prevent it from turning on unintentionally. However, it is awkward on irregular surfaces that are not flat. I used it both ways and of course it was better on the flat horizontal surface. Since that is what it is designed for, I gave it 4 stars. It is lighter than the old B&D that I had before this one, and I've only had it a few weeks, so I don't know how durable it will be. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool for the price I was a full time cabinet maker until the housing crash. I used mostly pneumatic palm sanders. Now that I have just a small tinker shop I use electric. Had the BD mouse for 20 years and it worked well for the small jobs in the tinker shop. Well, It died today. I purchased this model and so for so good. The 2.4 amps seems to do quite well. The unit is not that loud and it does not drag under pressure. Just used it a few times. If it does not hold up, I will re-review. I like the pressure "on" plate. let go and its off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does well! Don't use a sander a whole lot, but enough to know what's good/bad about it (And I was replacing a sander who's hooks would'nt hold the paper) Because of my 'low' , and I should say 'infrequent' usage, I liked the price of the B & D. Got used to the 'lever' on/off really quick (I like it!), the 14k rpm is nice as it takes care of business efficiently....just be sure to have the correct grit. Don't know what the other review meant by "harder you press down" gets you more power, because there is only one speed, but I do find the lever on/off to be really beneficial, especially if you're working with smaller boards or if you're needing to lift the sander occasionally to check progress or change material. This job I was refinishing baseboard so I was moving from one board to another rather quickly. For larger pieces the sander has a lock, which I can also see myself using. Although I have no long term experience with this product, the basic operations of the sander would lend me to recommend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke on the 3rd day Bought it due to the price. Used it for a couple of hours the next day standing some 1x4s for a small indoor gate. Went out the second day for use, lasted maybe an hour? Apparently, somehow, the center section of the velcro pad heated up from something and completely broke off. Sanding pads were installed correctly with vent holes open as well. Going to be returned and it something with a bit more stout I suppose. I didn't give a 1 star because it did work great, before it broke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works pretty good Granted, this isn't a higher dollar brand name sander. BUT, works just as well. It feels fairly light. Some sanders are bulky and heavy. That leads to fatigue and less time actually using it. This isn't so much the case with this sander. It feels comfortable also. This lends itself to less fatigue too. Overall, for the money, this is a great sander. I can only give it 4 stars because I'm not sure how long it will last. If I can get a few good years of use from it, I will be satisfied then I will change my rating. So far so good. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid sander for the price I bought this and was surprised of the power it has. Light weight and easy to use. I have small hands and fits just right. I like the delay start up it has so I can double check I am level on my project. The only thing I would have like to see come with is an attachment so I could punch holes in my sandpaper that don’t have holes so they lined up better. Over all I would recommend this item
