I have a brand new home(1 year new).I noticed the builder installed pink insulation above the walls in the rim joist cavity.i removed a piece of it the other day and found major frost build-up on the joist.Would this product work well in the rim joist?

Asked by: Dave the dude
Yes, I believe this would work in this application. I suggest adhering it with PL Premium, that's what I did in my basement.

Can this be used on the inside of a metal garage door, if so would it keep the garage cooler in the summer?

Asked by: mich1313
I can't see why it couldn't. It's kind of heavy though, so check with the garage door company about whether or not it may not perform properly with the extra weight. It might be better and cheaper in the long run, to replace the door with an insulated one.

we have a granite stone wall on one side of our house something common in the 1950s and 1960s we want to use this on the whole exterior of the house ..how would we go about attaching it over the granite ?can we go over granite ?

Asked by: chichi66
I have used this product indoors as a first layer of insulation. I glued it to the block wall with PL Premium construction adhesive. If your granite is pretty flat, then that application should work. If it's bumpy, you would have to drill and lag or use Ramset nails to fasten it. Hope this helps.

Hi, I am redoing a 100 year old home and there is no insultation want to know if this can be used inside of exterior walls rather than exterior?

Asked by: froggy128
I have used this on the interior of my 100-year home (after verifying with Rockwool tech support that this was allowed). But you have to distinguish between where to use regular Rockwool batts (flexible) and Comfortboard (rigid). If you have access to the interior wall cavity (i.e.- after stripping off the plaster and lath), then it is much easier, more tightly sealed, and more cost-effective to use the batts. In my case, I used 3.5" batts in between my 2x4 studs which gave me R-14. As I live in Climate Zone 6a (southern Canada), the minimum code requirement for exterior walls is R-20. So I added a 1.5" layer of Comfortboard (R-6) on top of the studs--held on with 1x4 furring strips screwed into the studs and then finished with a vapor barrier (optional) and 1/2" gyproc. Important to caulk all the floor-wall joints and wall/window joint to minimize air infiltration before installing finishing mouldings. Hope this helps.

When installing on cement wall in basement do I have to install floor to ceiling, is it possible to just install to ground level where most moisture is?

Asked by: Kgirl
to comment of amount of insulation that code requires: R-16 continuous, R20 if this is insulated framing (framing with framing factor 20% insulated with batts of R-20 will give you equivalent insulation R-16). Roxul recommended design was to install Comfortboard continuously on the wall (glue), then 6 mil poly, then regular framing with 2x4 and R-14 batts, then smart vapour retarder, and finally drywalll. This will give you R-16 continuous as well.

Can you insulate garage with this, my child’s bedroom is over the garage in our new house and there is no insulation, it’s alreadybstarting to become very cold during the nights in that room. Would the installation process be the same? Also, could you use

Asked by: Annie1118
I would consult a contractor, we use it mostly for sound deadening in high voltage electrical equipment. I'm sure you could use it but I would think you might want something thicker, having a contractor take look would be the best start in my opinion.

Rockwool Comfortboard Faced Rigid Insulating Panels for 2 x 6 Stud Walls - 36-in W x 48-in L - Faced - Mineral Wool is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a consistent and reliable product!! There is nothing about this product that is not great! We have been working on building our school bus for the last 2 years and every time I buy a package of Roxul to install I look forward to the project. With tools as simple as a tape measure and a drywall knife or scissors you are on your way to a professional install. The only downside of this product is the fact people don't know what it is! I had a older man stop me in the parking lot of our local hardware store and explain that carrying a bag of Roxul insulation was going to make me itchy and miserable. I proceeded to correct him and explain how this product is the next generation of insulation products!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roxul Comfortboard insulation board I had rodents and insects living in the fiberglass batt insulation in my pole barn, so I am replacing the fiberglass with rock wool insulation from Roxul. I put the ComfortBoard between the girts, covered the wall and posts with an air infiltration barrier, and am building stud walls with Roxul ComfortBatt insulation. The ComfortBoard is easy to use, easy to measure, and easy to cut with an insulation knife. I use a 2x4 as a straight edge. ComfortBoard can be attached directly to the concrete wall in a basement as a solid layer before building a stud wall. Rock wool is water and fire (and rodent) resistant. My first order of ComfortBoard came from Canada and was more expensive, so I'm glad they are offering it in the US.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extreme Fire Hazard Zone Protection Our house is in the Wildland Urban Interface and the City has designated our site as "extreme" for fire hazard. Initially we were limited to a very few products for our house skin, none of which fit our project goals and aesthetic desires (high performance rain screen system). We found the Roxul products on-line, ordered samples, reviewed all the specs and presented our case to the local authority to demonstrate that the Roxul products would allow us to meet the exterior fire requirements by creating a break between the skin and the interior. In the end, the Roxul allowed us to be creative with our finish materials and shell. As far as we know, we are the first in our community to use the IS. Just as importantly, the Roxul won't grow mold or breakdown with moisture. The crew really enjoyed working with the product; easy to cut and didn't tear up their hands and arms or hurt their eyes. Roxul is on our list along other awesome products we found on our journey to present to the local sustainable building program committee. Oh yah, and not only does it provide the fire resistance, it provides excellent thermal performance. We used the batt in the walls on the interior and the IS on the walls and roof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to work with! We are doing a legal suite in our Edmonton home, Safe and Sound is being installed in all joist spaces and Comfort Batt Thermal is being installed on exterior walls. We don’t even have everything insulated yet and we have already notice a MASSIVE difference in temperature and noise dampening from upstairs. The extra cost to install Rockwool instead of regular fibreglass insulation was with out a doubt a great investment to our income property.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect product to add exterior insulation After watching the build show, I decided to use Rockwool rigid panels to insulate the exterior of a 1970s bungalow north of Toronto. The boards are easy to work with, cut and fasten. Rockwool does not have some of the negative issues with foam. The added fire resistance properties makes us feel more secure . Sound deadening is also noticeably improved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greaat stuff! We used this in making sound deadening panels at Inland Div. GMC when i was a sheet metal worker there. Wrapped it in 4 mil plastic to keep water off of it. Never had to go back and re-do any of it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic product I used this on my net zero home, and more products in the framing, Roxul is the best I have used by far. As a former contractor I have used them all, and Roxul is the best by far.
