Description

Put in this ROCKWOOL Safe'n'Sound insulation for quieter and safer areas. This is an interior insulator made of high-density stone wool. It works well for ceilings, floors and walls between rooms. The 3-in thick, pre-cut batts measure 24 in x 48 in to fit steel studs. To adjust sizing or cut irregular notches, use a serrated knife. Position the insulation, then press it into place. This is sound-absorbing and fire-resistant insulation, so a snug fit ensures peak performance. You can put Safe'n'Sound insulation up quickly and reap the sound-dampening and fire-protection benefits immediately. In the event of a fire, this stone wool insulation won't smoulder or ignite. It's also inorganic and non-reactive. The insulation doesn't take on water or moisture, which prevents decay and discourages mould and mildew.

Ecological Attributes

This product is certified by GREENGUARD, attesting that it has less of an impact on indoor air quality. The concentrations of the total volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde are less than 0.5 mg/m3, reducing the impact on human health in the home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jobber from Very easy to use. I have insulated several homes and used this product on the last one and it is head and shoulders above fiberglass. It is extremely easy to cut and does not irritate your skin. The 3-1/2" thickness also carries about a 15% higher R value than fiberglass and you can cut it into odd shapes to fit around protrusions and angles. My last project was a 100+ year old house where the stud to stud dimensions left a lot to be desired; so I cut the batting to the needed width and placed it horizontally between the studs. The material is stiff and holds it shape and position without having to staple - this saved a lot of insulation time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MrDough from So much easier than fiberglass It really does cut like bread with a serrated knife. Trying to cut fiberglass has nearly driven me to violence in the past. This stuff was a dream! I also loved that the batts hold their shape. Cut it 1/4" to 1/2" oversize and it tucks perfectly into stud bays, or joist bays above your head, and stays there. I disagree with some other reviewers about the itching though. Be prepared for itching. I thought it was as bad as fiberglass. The night I did it my nose was running because it was cold. I kept tissues in a different room but the fibers must have been on my face because by the end of the night my nose and cheeks HURT from the frequent wiping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Energyauditguy from Best insulation ever!!! I've used cellulose, fiberglass, safe touch, and now this. Im insulating my basement. This is the best ive ever used in every way. It cuts with a dull bread knife like you're cutting cake, seriously. It is safe to handle, unlike fiberglass where you cough up blood unless you wear a respirator. It fits tight and holds in place. No stapling! High flame and fire retardancy, and noise reduction. Waterproof, mold resistant, where do I stop? Why does nasty fiberglass insulation even exist when we have products like this available? Again, why does NASTY fiberglass insulation exist when a product like this is available?

Rated 5 out of 5 by B Taylor from excellent product! I have worked with fiberglass and denim insulation Roxul rock wool insulation was by far the easiest to work with! It offers a night R-Value than denim and causes less irritation than fiberglass. It was extremely easy to cut (serreated blade required.. Bread knife works great) and the friction fit design made it extremely easy to get a snug fit. The only downfall to this product is the price. It's roughly the same price as the denim but 3 times that of most fiberglass. In my opinion, however, the ease of use, superior acoustic properties, decreased irritants, absents of formaldehyde additives & better water resistance make it a better choice than it's competitors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LloydChristmas from Hi guys & gals. Here is my review. Listen folks, let's not overthink this...Is this stuff amazing? Yes. Is it expensive - Yes. Does it cut easily? Yes. Can you wedge it in the walls/ceilings without it falling out? Yes. Does it still scratch/itch? A little bit, but not bad. Is it fireproof? Yes. Does it help with sound insulation? Yes. Can you cut it with a butterknife? Depends on the butter knife, but I'd recommend a bread knife. Do the stores carry it? Mine didn't - had to order it. Is it pink? No, it's a dirty yellowish/brown. Do I recommend it? Yes. Even over fiberglass? I think so. But if you're a tightwad, like to scratch yourself, don't care about fires, or have hearing problems, you might be okay with the cheaper fiberglass stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by whoknewit from Superior Product Ordered 10 bags on Sunday, arrived at my local store Wednesday. Used it to insulate between floor joists in a basement crawl space. Simple to use. Insert one edge between joists, compress slightly, then move the other side into place and release. Roxul expands a bit and holds in place without the need for additional attachment. Got the hang of it in no time. Easily cut to size using a serrated knife. No itching. Fireproof. Waterproof. Insect proof. Absorbs sound, too. It's a pleasure to use such a superior product. Costs more but, like most things, it's worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lumberted from Excellent Insulation, Easy to Install The insulation comes precut to 16" on dead center install ready (it fits between the studs easily and tightly). It is 4' high so you use two to fill an eight foot high space. The stone wool resists fire much better than standard insulation and it doesn't irritate the skin and leave splinters like fiberglass. Now, I am not saying that the wool doesn't shed a little and itch a bit while it is on the skin, but it washes off easily and didn't keep itching later like when I use regular insulation. Rated 5 out of 5 by diy'r from Chimney Chase DIY Used it to insulate Chimney chase for brand new high efficiency wood stove insert. Very dense and easy to install and cut with kitchen knife. Made it quite warm in there way before the 5/8" sheetrock went up. Have to be careful about trying to compress it's depth at all though as it will fight back due to it's density. Did a lengthy internet search for this only to find that I could order and pick up at my local store (duh). Great product, only wish I knew they sold it earlier. Will buy it again for other projects and think Lowes should go ahead and just stock it.
