I can't seem to find the R-value on this product?  I am hoping to use this for basement walls?

Asked by: Mike Serwatuk
This product does not have a R value. You need a different insulation for that.   Inspect your package carefully as one of mine was contaminated with animal urine which I noticed after I got it home and had started installing it. No help whatsoever from Lowe’s customer service.

Yes it does make a difference but also resilient bar really helps for sound too.

Rockwool Safe'n'Sound Insulation - Up to 60.1-sq. ft. - Pack of 8 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Let's start off by stating I did not buy this for what it is usually intended for. I used it for my Home Studio as a sound diffuser. I placed the Roxul in a 24x48 wood frame then covered it in breathable fabric. I then placed hangers on the wood frame and placed 5 of them in my home studio/music room. My last home had insulation on the inside walls but this one in Alabama did not. Next step is to have insulation blown in from the attic down the walls to provide a better sound barrier from room to room. This Roxul is used in High End audio applications and when you DIY you cut the cost approx. 65%. Great product! Plus it does not make your skin itch like fiberglass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for DIY acoustic panels! I purchased this product for use in 8 acoustic panels I made for my modest home theater/video game room. I built 8 frames using 1x3 furring strips that I also purchased at Lowes. I placed each of the pieces of insulation in these frames, and covered them with fabric I purchased at a fabric store. Hundreds of staples later, my panels were finished. The eight panels in my small room have made a tremendous difference in sound quality, absorbing the sounds from my 7 speakers before they can reflect off the walls. Especially notable is the increased clarity from the center channel, where most dialog in a movie is placed. I would recommend this product for anyone who wants to make DIY acoustic panels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recording studio sound panels This insulation works great as sound absorbing panels, bass traps, etc. It is slightly stiff to hold its own shape and is easy to work with. Although made from stone, you still want to dress and wear protective equipment just as if you were working with fiberglass, as it has a very simiar feel. One caveat, you will want to order it well ahead of the expected start of your project. As with another reviewer, I was told by the website it would arrive by the end of the week, but I finally received it on the 3rd week. One of the issues was it was hung up in customs as it comes through/from Canada.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It would be great if all of the same quality I used this product as part of multi-step process to sound isolate the basement from the first floor. I think the product working as advertised. CONS: The quality needs some attention. Some bags were better than others. In fact, some panels within one bag were better than the others. The bad panels were to flimsy to hold itself between the joists (I put them in the ceiling not walls). The good ones were holding up firmly (given 24" O.C. distance between the joists). The good news, Roxul stood behind their product and fix the issue for me. NOTE: You really need to measure good and cut to the right measurement. The material is not forgiven. If you try fit and the measurement is wrong, each time you take out the Roxul to adjust measurement, the firmness of the material get reduced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recording Studio I used this product to insulate my walls in my recording studio and also to make sound absorbing panels. this is a great product and absorbs sound very well. it is also very easy to work with as it has no fiberglass. i highly recommend this for anyone looking to reduce noise from one room to another

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product for sound panels too I needed to build sound panels for the new fellowship hall at my church. We had very high ceilings and a lot of problems with sound echo. While this product is manufactured for use inside the walls it works very well for making sound panels too. Because it is intended for inside walls it does tend to be a bit crumbly and did not tolerate much handling. We built wooden frames, lined them with netting, glued the edges, put in the insulation, more netting on the other side and then covered the front with fabric. The result was inexpensive beautiful sound panels that make a huge difference in our large room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why use anything else? This stuff is way easier to use than fiberglass! It stays in place where you put it. Doesn't itch. Don't need a respirator. Trims up with a serrated knife. Provides thermal insulation + sound absorption & fire safing all in one product. I will probably never use fiberglass insulation again. If you have to order it in advance, like I had to, don't hesitate. It's a simple process. Lowe's really should stock it locally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and low itch [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This insulation is a piece of cake to install. The sections come pre-cut to fit in between studs perfectly and goes up quickly. I cannot comment on it's insulating qualities yet because only interior walls are insulate at this time but based on all my research this insulation has a higher r-value than fiberglass, does not lose shape within the walls and will not grow mold if exposed to water making this far superior to the standard fiberglass insulation.
