No, you cannot. It requires you to turn the knob manually in order to lock/unlock.

Yes, you can open with the SINGLE key supplied. That itself is the issue we were trying to solve in buying this lock. We did not want to depend on having the key with us (we are in the tropics: things easily get lost).

I can get back in without saying where is my key! This is great when I want to run in the house and grab a sandwich, I can lock it up and put in the code when I return....Sweet! If I want to keep the wife out of my shop all I have to do is change the code...Super Sweet!

Then, winter came. According to Schlage, low temperatures make the fluid in the lock assembly harden, so the pin can't get through it. So whenever it's cold, I hope you enjoy being locked out of your house... or standing in front of it like an idiot trying to get your house to lock so you can go to work. This thing is junk.

We've had ours for about 5 years and now I'm having to replace it because the wheel has shaved down to the point where it won't grab the lock anymore.

We decided to add the schlage lock and handle, just changed the battery for the fourth time in twelve years. Love these locks. Lock system is a little different than the new ones and the finish is coming off but still going strong.

Rated 1 out of 5 by zippy from Quit working after 6 months I own two of these. Both of them have failed. The first one had a keypad failure on a couple of the keys. The other unit stopped grabbing the deadbolt. This caused my kid to get locked out on a 102 degree day. I can no longer trust these locks. I will attempt to contact Schlage for repair and report back with my results.

Our Giant Schnauzer, Xander, knows how to open doors with handles (not knobs). On the occasion that we have left the key in the lock after we lock it, so he doesn't open the door while we're gone letting our cat out, he can't help bending them in the lock still trying to trip the handle. The final blow was the night we couldn't find the spare key and had to break the double paned door window to get into the house. I don't think Xander will learn to use the code to open the door.

The 9v battery lasts a pretty long time. The only thing I wish it had was Alexa compatibility, but this is a few years old, so I can't fault them for that. Overall, I would buy this again in 2018, but now I'm on the hunt for an Alexa-enabled deadbolt.

The kwikset has a motor that pulls the deadbolt in and out. The problem is that it uses up lots of battery and they go dead all the time. Also, we have this on a beach condo, and the salt air etc makes everything stick, which I think was causing excessive wear on the kwikset. The Schlage design makes the user provide the deadbolt turn, the electronic mechanism only engages and disengages the deadbolt turn knob. Much better design. A neighbor has had one for over three years on the original batteries.

The spring is the issue, Schlaged cheaper out super hard core, the spring wears and it's game over.

This lock, although of sufficient quality for my needs, was ineffective due to the interior side motor mechanism being too large to fit below the legally required, non-keyed deadbolt being installed too low. This lock would be great if the privacy deadbolt were installed to fit. I went with a smaller, more expensive, but same ANSI rated Schlegel lock due to this motor size issue.

These have now both reliably failed as soon as the weather drops below 0c. There are you tube videos on how to “fix” this issue but this happens every time the weather gets cooler. You will consistently spend time “repairing” this lock in order to get it to work when cooler outside. I would not recommend this lock to anyone who experiences winter. Shame on Schlage for allowing this poorly designed, and not for cooler climates product, to be distributed for sale in Canada.

Keypad will not actuate lock mechanism and handle turns without engaging deadbolt. Appears this is a not uncommon flaw and warranty requires return of unit for evaluation. Disappointing.

At first the fancy wi-fi and Bluetooth ones attracted my eye, until I looked into what they all offer. For my family's needs this Schlage deadbolt fit the bill. We do not need to lock or unlock remotely; and quite honestly feel like there is more to go wrong with more bells and whistles. Therefore this deadbolt is great....easy to install, and easy to use, at a great price!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jack from Great While it lasted I loved the lock for the first 6 months then it would have trouble engaging the cylinder to release the lock and then last two months it would not unlock the door. I changed the the battery twice in the year that I've had it and the problem persisted and got worse. Not sure why the lock would not unlock the door. But it's a little embarrassing and annoying not to be able to get in the house when the lock will not let you in. But I must admit that Schlage stand by their product and are sending me a replacement.

The key still worked but that was the only way it would work from the outside. The second would not work out of the box. The green light came on showing it accepted the code but it would not activate the bolt to be turned, the same as the one previously. Sooo sad!!! I checked to make sure it was not in key lock mode only mode and it was not.

I bought two of these locks in October 2016. I thought they were great, loved the ability to lock and unlock without fumbling for keys. Installation and setup was easy. Life was great until Jun 2018, when one of the locks froze in the locked position. I had to disassemble the lock and destroy the bolt mechanism to get the door open. Schlage replaced the entire lock under warranty, so great! Until August 2019, when the new lock also froze in the locked position. This time I figured out that the problem was the bolt itself - when locked, the bolt didn't extend quite all the way, and then froze in that position. Again, I had to disassemble the lock but I was able to move the bolt mechanism enough to finally get it to extend and then unlock. Schlage sent me a new bolt assembly. Now the second of my original locks has done the same thing. Three separate locks, same problem on all three. So no, I can't recommend this lock, and I'm leery of any Schlage product, because I suspect the same bolt mechanism is used on all. Being locked out of your house is bad enough, but the idea of being locked in during an emergency is much, much worse.

I spent a long time researching the best and safest brands of keypad locks, and settled on this model. I really did like it when it was installed and working. It's easy to use and quick to program. However, within 2 days of professional installation the lock stopped working. It recognized the code I put into it, but when I physically spun it to unlock OR lock it, the lock simply spun and didn't trigger. I called Schlage's customer service line and they said it must have a broken sensor, so I returned it and got a new one, same model and installed it myself. It's very easy to install, shouldn't take more than 10 or 20 minutes even for amateurs. However, the exact same issue happened to the second lock within 2 weeks of use. I uninstalled it and returned it. Will not be buying this model or brand again. Instead I bought a competitor's lock for half the price and it's worked like a charm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Yadasouth from Do not waste money on Schlage keyless locks! Bad bad design. Schlage should offer some kind of retrofit to fix their locks. They do not work in cold weather. Taking it apart and resetting the little pin is a poor option--especially since the lock fails again quickly. As well, it is not that easy to key the lock open. You have to get it into a certain position and push while turning. Once open it is not htat easy to extract your key! A real piece of crap. Oh, and Schlage doesn't respond to emails either.

It is also cumbersome as you have to manually twist the knob. I bought it because it was a Schlage thinking it would be better than the Kwikset that it replaced. I'm going back to Kwikset.

Easy to program and easy to install. I love the electronic keypad and manual turn deadbolt. I have had another brand that powers the deadbolt to move after entering code and the motor burned out. I tried a different brand (was on sale) recently to install on a toolshed which was so complicated to program and then didn’t work (unfortunately I recycled box immediately and couldn’t return) so went online to purchase this unit (luckily on sale).

All 4 of them have died at one point and 2 of the replacements have failed. Everyone one of them fail to engage when the thumb screw is turned. Schlage is especially pathetic because this has been over a 4 year period. Do they not know there is a serious issue with the design. I will never purchase or recommend this company for anything. Instead of offering to give me a free replacement can i get my money back and purchase a product that is reliable.

I haven’t changed a battery in a year of use. I also have a schlage entry door keypad lock on my home and the battery has not been changed in two years. It’s also nice to have multiple key entry codes and temporary codes my maintenance people.
