How difficult is it to change the batteries in this lock?  I had a smart lock from another manufacturer and it sucked!  There were 4 tiny screws that had to be removed you had to have the door open, and due to the trim around the window one was on

Rated 3 out of 5 by Brian from Remote Doesn't Work When you have to reset locally I purchased the Encode a few weeks ago for a second home that I use for some weekly rentals. I was loving the versatility of the lock and the use of temporary codes and remote status notifications. The other evening my tenants had to reboot the router in the house. Today we discovered the lock needs to be reset manually, as it is no longer synching to the wifi. When I called Schlage support they advised that I need to use the Bluetooth capability from my phone to do so. That would be great if I didn't live 3 hours away. The Schlage rep didn't see the flaw in a remote access lock that can't be reset remotely. Wow, just wow!

With friends coming over often for extended stays in Florida, assigned door codes made it easy to see when they left and came back. Unfortunately, at the year mark (Apr 2021), the front panel started having issues. It would not respond to touch. We replaced the batteries, cleaned the front panel and are now requested a replacement unit because Schlage offers a 3-year warranty on this product (I'll update this rating once a resolution is in place). Perhaps the Florida humidity is just too much for these locks?

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jordan from Works ALMOST Perfectly We've been using this lock now for about 4 months, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Sturdy deadbolt, connects with the app, can be opened and closed with the app, great for living in an apartment when maintenance needs access to your home. Downside which is enough to bump this review to 3 stars, when it malfunctions, it's incredibly unsafe. Our power went out, messing with our wifi. This resulted in our lock...losing it's mind. It refused to connect to the app even with a hard reset, even unlocked itself ON ITS OWN. No one near the lock, no one had the app open. Truly a safety issue. Had to take the batteries out for the night and use the hard key until a resolution could be found. Lock is back online and secured, but could have been a dangerous situation with the lock unlocking itself had we not been home or even just sleeping. Still would recommend as it works 99% of the time, but definitely keep an eye on it for malfunctions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lisa from Brand Name Joke Purchased new home. Purchased this deadbolt. Installed. Inoperable. Uninstalled. Returned for exchange. Installed again. Going good until batteries die. Replace batteries twice. Nothing. Requires call to Schlage because manual is of no use to get it to operate. Worst part of entire experience....wait on hold 31 minutes to get an operator to run me through 2 minutes of pushing various buttons. Works. Can't wait until the batteries die again so I can spend another 31 minutes of my day waiting on the one Schlage rep to get to my call.

Another great feature is it lets you know if the door is not closed properly! Love it!

The first lock didn't work at all, after spending an hour on the phone with Schlage customer service they recommended returning it. The second lock hooked up wonderful and worked great for about a month. The lock started making noises and saying it was to cold on days that where in the 40's but worked great in -10 degree weather. After changing the batteries twice the whole lock just stopped working all together. Now my lock to my front door doesn't work at all and I can not find this lock in stock anywhere in order to exchange it... again. For such an expensive device it's very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Darman from Help keep your home safe. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A great way to keep track of who is coming to your house and how long they are there. This let's you know when the cleaning people, dog sitters, etc. show up and when they leave. It is a deterrent to break ins, and if you prefer not to carry a key, it is super easy. I love the convenience of this keypad entry system, and the increased security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kayo from Simple install, works great! This lock was recommended to me by a friend in the home security business. He had recently installed the same lock on his Mother’s home. It was a very simple install following the instructions provided via the web app. It replaced a Schlage mechanical deadbolt which may have made it easier. The interface is simple and intuitive. Next step will be to replace the locking door knob. I’ll update again as time passes, if warranted.
