Description

Does this saw come with a blade?

Mine came with a Skilsaw brand thin kerf 24T blade. Works well for general framing/sheathing and easily handles ripping a piece of 2 x lumber lengthwise. Decent blade overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by bigdrew from Love this saw I had an old skill sidewinder saw that i bought at a yard sale years ago give up the ghost and started doing research on what I wanted next. As a hobbyist, the worm drive is probably more saw than I "need" but I figured going with the Mag 77 I'd probably never have to buy another saw. Am I glad I did. The blade on the left side makes life so much easier for a right handed user, the extra weight eats vibration and I hardly even noticed the extra weight after several cuts. The rafter hook and ultra defined call outs on the degree scale are awesome. I finished one project with it already and I enjoyed using the saw so much now i'm looking for other stuff to cut for the fun of it. Love it.

I immediately installed a Diablo blade and started ripping through a small decking project without any issue with that wormdrive power. The saw feels great in my hand and I really like the blade being on the left side of the saw since I am right handed so, I am able to see the cut clearly. The light weight of the base made from magnesium makes it as light as a sidewinder type of saw. This saw replaced an old sidewinder saw that I bought almost 20 years ago that was finally dying. This saw is going to last me a lifetime since I am just a DIY'er. I might be passing this saw on to my grandson!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stanley from The choice of professionals for decades [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the earlier version of this Skilsaw for something like 40 years, since I first worked as a carpenter's helper, and he told me what to get. No one I ever saw on a job site ever used anything else. They do the job and take whatever happens in stride. I dropped mine off a barn roof once (even tho I tied off the ext. cord as I'd been taught, just the tip of the plate hit concrete, I'd given just a bit too much slack to move about the roof). A little scuffed, a little tweak to the baseplate corner, but didn't effect the level and true cut. I used it for another 2 decades. I just decided it was time to see what modern technology had added to a great classic tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dogdad from Mag 77 I have owned several different circular saws over the years yet I had not used a worm drive until just recently. I was hooked within just a few cuts. I sold all my other saws and bought this one with the proceeds and haven’t regretted it for a second. The handle design lends itself to steady cutting as your pushing the blade through material from behind instead of from above it. The added torque the worm drive gear box provides allows you to cut through weathered, wet or painted materials with ease and confidence. In a day and age when most things are built to be seemingly disposable, this design stands the test of time. I truly wish I had started out with one, I’d have been a better craftsman!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Mixed feelings Saw has great features, calibration capability and it's much easier to use than older and competative models. On the other hand the manual says it's dialed in, lubricated and ready to go out of the box. However, mine and the display models in store were neither. I'd recommend double checking the 0 degree bevel alignment screw and maximum depth of cut stabilization adjustment screw for proper setting. Most importantly fill the worm gear housing with oil as the one I got and the display models in store had NO OIL in them. When I called Skil about this, they acknowledged that they do not ship with oil but seemed to shrug it off. Small oversight with costly consequences. I hope Skil corrects the manual and has some obvious tags on the saw and box alerting the user to the fact that it's up to them to purchase and fill it with the correct oil before use. A cut away picture would go a long way in describing the oil fill level for someone not already familiar with this saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Peter from It's a Skilsaw! Time-tested, tried-and-true, nothing really compares. Personally I enjoy a variety in my shop, and I have always owned this tool. It's not fancy, does what it's supposed to do, doesn't cost a fortune, the design is simple without a bunch of electronics that only break overtime. Why reinvent the wheel? Over the course of 39 years, this is only the 3rd Skilsaw I've purchased. Truth be told I gave away one years ago so really this is only the second tool I've needed. I guess that says it all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Confederate from A little different Since my sidewinder saw walked away from the truck I went ahead and picked up this worm drive. I was going to upgrade to it at some point but hadn't planned to do it now.. I've used it for several jobs now and must say I do like it. It takes some getting used to if you've never had one of these things. Everything gets cut in reverse of how I'm used to doing it. That has been a real challenge to get used to. If you aren't careful you will get a crooked cut because the plate is much smaller than the typical circular saw. As far as operation, I haven't had a single issue and don't expect too as this saw is the highest rated saw out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gerry from Best saw I've ever used! I don't have a lot of woodworking experience. I've only owned one other circular saw--Black & Decker--that I've had for years. The difference between the Skillsaw and my old Black & Decker was night and day. Where the B&D was hard to hold steady and vibrated a great deal the Skillsaw was rock solid, smooth and didn't move. Like my perception of math skills from high school and believing that I could never grasp certain concepts, I thought that I couldn't cut a straight line to save my life. The very first cut I made with this saw changed everything. I swear that my first cut looked like I had made the same cut on my table saw. This will be the last saw I ever own. The investment in the Skillsaw will pay me back for the rest of my woodworking life.
