Skil Corded Belt Sander - 3-in x 18-in - 6-Amp Motor - Lock-On Button Trigger is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 178.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice idea but epic fail! Ok, first the good... The pressure lights are cool and help you know when using too much force. The bad part is the filter trap. There is no way to get the dust out but bang it or use a shop vac, which was working great. So about 20 mins into sanding it was time to empty the dust catch AGAIN and this time it was so hot that the glue that holds the filter together had liquified and dripped all down in the filter clogging up a good 25%. Not to mention the shop vac sucked the filter right off, lol. Gotta bring this bad boy back, would have been a winner if not for Skill getting too cute with the filter canister idea, stick with a simple bag please next time SKILL.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does The Job I don't know what all the negative reviews are about, or what people were expecting of this product. If you spend this kind of money for a belt sander, expectations should be relevant. I used it to smooth trim all around on a deck I had to rebuild. It handled pressure treated lumber with a 40 grit belt with no problem...no overheating, no "chewing up" the belt. I did wind up taking off the dust catcher so I didn't have to continually empty it as I was outside. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to a friend depending on what their needs are. Very good product for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from gets the job done. 2nd week owning this belt sander. in the competition of course black and decker is an absolute NO many bad expreinces with that name. however. this sander has some backdraws. 1 you will need an air compressor too blow the excess saw dust out. why? it tends too clog then the saw dust is all over the floor please note this is a must for this sander, i blow it out every time the canister is full. 2nd is. the adjustment tab has a tendency too ride on the sand paper this is an easy fix, just pop the bottom open and pull the sharp tabs away from where there paper rides. other than that it does the job very well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked fine for a month, then it just stopped I bought this belt sander at the end of November. It worked fine for 4 weeks through light to moderate use. I was happy with it, I would use it for 2-3 hours at a time without issue. Then one day I had used it for about 10 minutes and it just stopped. I would pull the trigger, the green light would come on, but the sander wouldn't run at all. I looked at the manual to see if there was some sort of fuse or something that would cause this, but didn't find anything in the manual to that effect. I returned it to Lowes and bought a more expensive sander that I hope works for a lot longer than this one did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this belt sander!! I purchased this to do the few inches around the walls that the Drum Sander couldn't reach. I used a 36 grit belt because there were multiple layers of paint on the floors. It was taking it off in seconds!!! I was so amazed because my palm sander was taking forever! I did not have any issues with the belt being chewed up. The dust canister had to be emptied a few times but to me I'm not complaining about that because it's doing its job and collecting dust! It would get slightly hot but still able to touch it. I love the feature of being able to lock it into the on position so you don't have to hold the button down and can have a firmer grip. I am so happy with this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Skil Belt Sander This thing eats belts, as you will see in other reviews. The belt adjustor appears to work but once you start using it the belt will inevitably slide over into the body and disintegrates. If you look at it, the adjustor appears broken, but it's not, that's just how they engineered it. If they were looking to design a tool to destroy belts for fun they did a perfect job. I've used other products made by Skil and they worked fine but save yourself the headache and spend a little more when you get a belt sander.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS Unless of course you have an unlimited about of belts. Bought this product about an hour ago. I intend to return it tomorrow. After 20 minutes of use, the sander started to eat the belt. I thought maybe it was just something wrong with that particular belt so I changed it. Turns out it was the sander. It ate three more belts. I intend to return the product and get a refund for the belts. Absolutely worst sander on earth.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This sander likes to eat belts I can not recommend this item. I started using it and within a day the belt tracking didn't seem to be working very well. I was going thru a lot of sanding belts. I returned the item to Lowes, and got another one. It seemed to be working ok, and then it started doing the same thing. Eating belts. The dust collection system on the sander worked very well. I have to wonder if the fact that it uses 18 belts is the problem? I have gone back to Lowes and bought a Black n Decker 21 inch belt sander and I have done more work with 2 belts with the 21 than I did with the 18 using 12 sanding belts.
