Stud Sensor - Edge Detection - 3/4" - Red/Black is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 151.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this basic stud finder for a simple task but the stud finder would not calibrate. The red and green light stayed on together with the constant beep even after trying multiple walls. I think I wasted a battery just trying to calibrate it. Taking it back for a refund

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to use and comfortable to handle. Well it works so well when I pointed it at my self it said I was a stud.lol

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible. Refused to calibrate. this thing would pretend to calibrate only to ring that annoying buzz sound for eternity. don't buy this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Drilled 3 holes [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] STUD SENSOR did NOT work as discribed. Followed 3 steps... SENSOR would go off anywhere BUT Studs... Drilled 3 holes and did NOT find a STUD.. DO NOT BUY THIS SENSOR IF YOU HAVE AN OLD HOUSE THAT WAS BUILT with stucco base Walls.. I ended Up with more work patch and color Match... YOU WILL NEED MORE THAN 3/4 REACH... FOR SCAN..

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Consistent [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I scanned for 3’ in 1 direction, then 3’ in a perpendicular direction. The stud-finder beeped once, then on further passes....nothing. I simply relied on my tried and true knocking method to listen to density differences and found it the 1st try. This was not worth the time or money to purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from trash its easier more accurate to knock on the wall to find studs, now it just beeps after 3 uses from just sitting in my tool bag, new battery and tired to calibrate but it won't work anymore.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Gives False Readings [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this on my garage ceiling to try and locate studs. It kept giving me false readings about where the studs were actually located. I resorted to using a hammer and listening to the sound and then drilling a small hole to see if I hit the stud.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First notice it did not include the battery, after buying the batterie it was acting as tho everything was a stud. Even a piece of metal. I end it up returning this product as it was very useless no wonder it had a reduce price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Finds Studs....In the Most Annoying Way Possible [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So let me preface by saying, this is about the cheapest stud finder that is available to purchase with the exception of the magnetic ones that latch onto dry wall screws. You will spend more money on 9 volt batteries than you will on this actual tool. For the most part, the tool identified studs. There have been a few times where the reader did not go off the first scan, but upon a second swipe, seemed to locate the stud no problem. Take that for what its worth, Im always of the measure twice, drill once mentality anyway. The main issue i have is the beeping...it beeps when it gets calibrated and it beeps when it finds a stud. It is the sound that will haunt my dreams for lifetimes to come. Maybe you can get used to it, i can not. High pitched and no way (that i have found out) to disable. Why cant the light just go on...i don't need an audible tone to tell me that a stud has been located. Just flip on the light and i'll be perfectly happy. So in conclusion, does it work...yea sure, 75% of the time...are there better options out there...also true.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless The red light is supposed to go on when it detects a stud. However, every time I put it on the wall the red light goes on and beeps. No matter where I move it the red light stays on and beeps. Worthless!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't Work [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Even after calibration, the stud finder would go off constantly. Was never able to find a stud.
Date published: 2018-10-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from 50% accuracies [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You get what you pay for. The red light goes on for everything. If I put it down it beeps. Found one stud then the next one it wasn’t a stud but it flashed red. Taking it back not worth it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Invest in a better one Extremely inconsistent, claimed to have batteries included (it did not), and were not able to find a stud

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stud finder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Stud finder Does not work on any wall I have to return this!
Date published: 2018-10-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful but with some limitations [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this stuf finder because I was still using one of those little magnetic ones to find studs, and that was very tedious. This Craftsman Stud Sensor is a big improvement on that old one! But it is also not as good as others I have used for reasons listed below. First, it requires a 9-volt (rectangular) battery, and it’s difficult to install and/or remove without damaging the wiring behind the battery cap. Second, it does a great job of detecting wooden studs (no need to pass over a drywall nailhead!), but it can’t tell the difference between a stud and an electric wire or water pipe, so you have to be very careful when you drill into what you think is a stud behind he drywall. I have used other sensors that do tell you the difference. Now, this one does sense the edge of the stud, so you can then come at the stud from the other direction and, when you see that it senses the other stud edge 1.5" in the other direction, then you can be pretty confident that you are dealing with a wooden 2x4 stud rather than a power line or water supply or drain pipe. So these are two things that make this sensor less than ideal. On the good side, the sensor works and can detect things behind walls up to ¾" thick, which is pretty good. It seems to me it takes a couple of passes to get really good at sensing the studs, but once it’s sensing, it does so consistently. And it is well designed to help you mark the stud edges and then find the center of the stud for drilling. The sensor has thin pads of synthetic felt on the wall side of the sensor so that you don’t scratch the wall with the sensor itself, but the sensor only works in this mode if the wall is smooth. To make it work on a rougher surface, the instructions say that you need to put some pasteboard between the sensor and the wall, then turn on the sensor with your thumb so that it can calibrate the depth and also begin to read. while holding the "on" button down with your thumb, you need to hold the cardboard in place with your remaining fingers while sliding the sensor back and forth on the rough wall, and the directions advise keeping the other hand away from the sensor to avoid interference and thus inaccuracy. Trust me, this one-handed operation is not ideal. The cardboard doesn’t want to slide in both directions easily, and you have to remove it to mark your spot (unless you want to trim the pasteboard very precisely to expose the top of the sensor where you mark your wall). So, bottom line: an improvement over trraditional magnetic stud finders, but not as safe as more expensive sensors that can "see" wood vs. wires vs. pipes behind the drywall. A bit awkward to use on rough surfaces, but experience using it overcomes some of these limitations. I’d recommend a redesign using button batteries or AAA batteries rather than 9-volt batteries.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For the price it isn't too bad. There are just a few little things that would make it better. I don't like the 9V battery. I never have a 9V around the house and have to make a special trip when I need batteries or new batteries. Also the sound. Why? Overall I'd say it's ok. It did find most of the edges of the studs pretty well with a few false reads.
Date published: 2018-09-26
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn’t work at all Fresh out of the package from Lowes, new battery, doesn’t matter where you put it on wall, steady beep and both lights, never clears. I then changed the battery, same thing. It doesn’t work period. Every place is closed now and I have to drill so I’m on my own. Garbage, won’t calibrate on plaster wall, sheet rock wall, or wood panel wall. Old 30 year old one works some. This is garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stud Finder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Found the stud, no problem. But won't let you know that you got an oversized electrical box behind it and now you got two holes in the wall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Compact, easy to find and makes my job 10 times easier! Nice stud finder, cant beat the price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will Not Work Tired of dealing with this piece of crap! Read reviews, how-to's, etc. and it flat WILL NOT work! It reads all over the place and never in the same spot. I am mounting a 42" tv to the wall and I do not trust using this tool so away to the store to trade it in for something more trustworthy..
Date published: 2020-08-30
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gives a general idea of a stud location Mine found every stud I tested it on, its biggest issue is that it goes off "1-2" inches before it reaches a stud and continues detecting til youre a full "1-2" passed it (inconsistently). I have one wall that has a 4" gap between 2 studs, that this reads it as a 9" stud with no gap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spend a little more and get one that works [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were in the process of moving to a new home and my other stud finder was packed somewhere. I purchased this one to hand a few things for the wife. Well, after a few needless holes in the wall, I through this thing away.
Date published: 2019-08-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy Stud Finder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Craftsman stud finder worked just like it was described. I was able to locate both edges of the studs to pinpoint the center with no problem. I am only to speak for wood studs aince that’s what supports my walls. Therw are both visual and audible alerts when a stud is discovered which makes truly simple to use. An must for the DIYer who wants to avoid numerous holes in the wall, especially when mounting heavier items. All and all I would definitely recommend this tool.
Date published: 2018-09-17
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t waste your money! Purchased this for a small project to replace a lost stud finder. It will not calibrate so I will be making another trip back to the store to purchase a better unit. Wished I would have just done that in the first place!
Date published: 2020-12-27
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not TOO Shabby Overall, if you have a good idea where the studs are supposed to be, this helps identify them a little more accurately. If you have no idea, you could easily be misled identifying something else.
Date published: 2020-02-11
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap piece of junk I used this on a stud assembly with a piece of 3/8" acrylic over the studs. The scanner was consistently wrong identifying the edge of stud. The brand is only a shell of what it stood for.
Date published: 2022-01-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beeps all the time. After purchasing and putting in a battery, we were trying to find studs to mount a tv and the stud finder just beeped the whole time even after calibration. I do not recommend this product.
Date published: 2020-07-11
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work; took it back. Wouldn't calibrate per instructions. Also - this doesn't come with a battery so it was a bit aggravating that after going back out to buy a 9 volt battery, it didn't work.
Date published: 2020-07-17
Rated 1 out of 5 by from cheap quality- no worky Shouldnt have bought this. Craftsman sold out to China and quality is on par with the other items made for Harbor Freight. I followed directions and claims my studs are 3inch wide. I did an accuracy test for this review and this “finder” gives a false positive about an inch before the actual stud. Margin of error varies making it very difficult to guage w/consistency. Not worth it- i will go pay more for quality.
Date published: 2020-04-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm (literally). [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It makes finding a stud easy & lets you know both sides with a signal you can't miss.
