I need to cover pet odor in an unfinished basement. Can I use this in the cement floors?

Asked by: Laini
Hi Laini, Thank you for your question. Our Zinsser BIN was not designed for a floor application as it will not hold up to foot traffic. For pet odors, we recommend our Concrobium Mold Control, as it is great at not just killing mold but odors from pets as well. Apply and allow to dry. It generally dries within 2 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. If odors remain, the cement be more porous and may require a second application. We hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact us again if you require further information.

Is this good to prime ceramic tile than put acrylic paint over it?

Asked by: Corza
Hi Corza, Thank you for your question. If this is for a floor application; Our Zinsser BIN primer was not designed for horizontal surfaces such as floors. If this is for walls, ceiling; we recommend our Zinssers Bulls Eye 123 if you plan on using an acrylic paint to top coat your ceramic tiles. We hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact us again if you require further information.

Is this product the same as kilz original or BIN original red label or is the BIN RED label shellac base the only one, and is it available in 5 gallon?

Asked by: Naomikiwi
BIN is shellac base, and is good for blocking bleed through from knots or water stain.

Would this be good for kitchen and bathroom cabinets?, and can I use a good paint for cabinets over it?

Asked by: naza
BIN is not a good primer to use to completely cover new wood, because it does not breath. If there is moisture in the wood, a sudden temperature change would cause the moisture to expand, pushing the BIN and topcoat off. BIN is meant a stain blocker, not a whole surface primer. If the cabinets are wood, and you have knots or water marks bleeding, treat the knots with BIN, and use 123 or PermaWhite for the whole surface

B-I-N(R) Shellac-Base Primer-Sealer - 946 ml - White is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding coverage [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this on subfloor that a cat had peed on. In two coats it sealed it and no more smell after 8 years. If I could rate it 6 stars I would, and I’d go back and use it 8 years ago too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing primer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This primer works so good. It’s very thin and has a milk like consistency so you have to be careful while using it and prep the area with tape and drop cloths well. Works like magic. One coat of this and two coats of paint and it looks like I have brand new cabinets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy This for Oak Cabinets! I'm updating my kitchen cabinets with paint, and I orginally went with a recommended water-based tannin-blocking primer (even though my gut was telling me to just go with the shellac), and sure enough I had tannin bleed. Like many people out there, I wanted to save myself from the smelliness of shellac and use water-based instead, but it's just not in the cards. This stuff went on with my sprayer beautifully and covered all tannin bleed! It is a little more challenging to clean my sprayer after using this, but it's workable. I did splurge on a respirator, and I could not smell a thing during application. I don't know if I would actually apply it inside the house due to the smell (like on cabinet frames or trim), but for cabinet projects you can paint outside or in the garage, this stuff is a miracle worker!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BIN Zinsser stain blocker primer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had excellent results painting over some water stains on drywall. The topcoat went on very smoothly and the stain did not bleed through. This is the primer to use especially on tough to treat staining.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used it on my pine wood projects where the possibility of bleed through at the knots is high. It seals very good and worked extremely well. I would buy a cheaper paint brush when using this, since clean up could be messy and laborious - same thing with other similar products. But this is my preferred product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sealing torn drywall This was recommended as an alternative for another product (R99, I think). I used it on some torn drywall paper. It dried quickly and I put on some mud. When I went back to texture it, there were two bubbles. Most of the torn paper had sealed up just fine. If I were to use it again, I would really load it on, and give it two or three coats. Maybe the spray-on product would have worked better for my purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sanding and painting my wood cabinets. I tried a different primer and had to keep coating due to bleed thru but with the BIN Primer I had no bleed thru and made the job so much easier, and faster

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome coverage! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We painted an old oak table and it kept bleeding different colors through the white paint we were painting it with, so we looked up the best primer to seal our table and prevent this from happening, and this was highly recommended. I can say without a doubt, our table looks amazing now because of this primer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Excellent primer. Did a great job of covering stain and old oil based paint on wood doors. Be sure to mix well or have the folks in the paint department give it a good shake before using. I purchased two cans. One of them had settled quite a bit. I wish I had used this product before painting other stained woodwork and trim. Saved me a lot of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best stain kill for drop ceilimng tiles [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] unlike other products, when this dries, it blends in perfectly with the rest of the drop ceiling tiles...also just use a foam brush and toss it otherwise you need denatured alcohol to clean up the brush

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seal the paper [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you have damaged or otherwise exposed drywall paper, use this first before mud and tape or othe repairs. Dries quickly (about an hour) and sets the surface for proper repairs

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOES NOT block odors WE have sprayed, used a paint brush, rolled, even coated our entire floor and walls with this and we can still smell the cat urine. You can actually see it bleed through. The day after painting it is fine, but then the next you can see bleed through. I called the manufacturere and they said do 2 coats if it still smells. We did 5 or 6 heavy coats. No luck still. Still smells. Its bad and we cant have people over knowing it stinks. I will post photos

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick drying [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] His product is very easy to use and very quick drying. We replaced balustrade spindles. BIN was used to prime over the wood knots. It went on very warily also. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE!!!! Expensive primer, but worth every cent. I wouldn't be without this product and the painting I do is strictly for my own residential needs. Painting is a chore to me, but this product makes the work a breeze. Shockingly fantastic stuff!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a charm! I've read many recommendations regarding how to paint oak cabinets white without having the tannins or oak grains show through substantially. After using this product, it is nothing short than amazing and did the job as well as expected; and let's just say I'm pretty much OCD when it comes to working on paint projects around the house. Yes, it's quite expensive compared to other products, but if you want things done the right way the first time, you pay for what you get. Completely worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shellac based primer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used this to cover resin stains that came through other primer and primary paint. New tongue and grove used in a deck cover ceiling was quite green when installed and resin bled through in a few days. The Zinsser BIN Primer is shellac based and completely sealed resin stains. New coat of paint is holding upnicely

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent stain blocker I have used Zinnser Bin many times in past, both in brush and spray (aerosol can) application. It has never failed to block any stain I used it on. Two cautions, and both are clearly stated on the label: 1) the clean up solvent is methyl alcohol, not paint thinner or water, 2) it is not intended for entire surfaces or projects, as it is non-breathable.

So far no peeling or chips.
