Description

This Zircon StudSensor(TM) L20 stud finder is ideal for your installation or renovation projects. It has a patented pinch grip design for a comfortable hold in either hand. With its easy-to-read display and its SpotLite® pointer, it clearly identifies the edge of the stud when it scans over it. The "READY" light indicates when calibration has completed successfully. It can locate edges of wood or metal studs in walls up to 3/4" deep and features a V groove for an accurate marking of the stud. This product is backed by a 1-year warranty.

All references are to 3/4" of drywall depth of sensing - will this sense studs through wood paneling such as that in a travel trailer?

How do u put batteries in it?

Hello. The L20 takes a 9 volt battery. There is a battery door on the under side of the unit. The Zircon website has instructions on battery replacement. Thank you

Rated 5 out of 5 by Handylady from Great tool - but there is a hitch I recently tried to use the Zircon Stud Finder but could not get it to work correctly. Checked with a neighbor who is a contractor and he was not able to get it to work either. I then called Zircon for advise and received excellent customer service. I was getting the green ok light but it wasn't lighting up red for the stud edge. I was advised I needed a fresher battery and although it was good enough to operate the go light it was not fresh enough to operate the stud finder function. Also learned that batteries have a date on them. Once I installed a battery with expiration day 2022, the stud finder worked perfectly. Who would have figured?

Rated 3 out of 5 by Dobie from Pay the extra to get the next model up This model requires calibration, but there is no indication when the calibration is complete, so you really never know whether or not it is properly calibrated. I would find a stud but when I moved the device a few inches up or down the wall to confirm that I had found one, it would not detect it. There are two potential explanations I can think of: 1) I never got the unit calibrated properly, or 2) the walls were thicker than this model can handle. Without some indication from the device that it was properly calibrated, I had no way of knowing why it was not finding the studs properly. I should have paid a few bucks more and got the next model up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by David from Low Cost Solution Works Perfectly I had no real problems with this device and it found my studs flawlessly. The 9 volt battery will go in the wrong way; this causes no harm, you just have to take it out and flip it over. Once the battery is in the calibration is simple, you just push the power button while holding the unit against the wall and remain still until the "ready" light comes on. If you are unlucky enough to try and calibrate over a stud the unit beeps and flashes. All of this is explained clearly in the instructions. I guess some people have very rough or thick walls, or they did not understand how to operate the thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by sandman from horrible decisions I have made horrible decisions in my life and this is defenitely another one. This product is absolutely worthless. This product is not worth the cheap price of $9.99. It would be a good toy for a 5 year old, but the price would have to be dropped to $4.99. I cannot even get the device to calibrate. It beeps constantly. I tried this on every wall in my house just to see if I could get it to calibrate at all. I will never by anything by this manufacturer again.

After about an hour and drilling four bad holes, I dont think this unit could find a stud if it was nailed directly to one. The directions are simple to follow, so operator errror ? After powering unit and letting it initialize, i would move it across the wall and within 2-3 inches it would beep rapidly and I would have to start over, now I have to patch and touchup the paint as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Luke from Works great for me. I guess I hit the Zircon stud-finder lottery, because this little guy works perfectly. I assume that most of the negative reviews come from people whose walls require a more expensive finder. Drilled 13 out of 13 screws through drywall straight into a stud. Keep in mind that this finder is not made for thick walls and I am sure it works best on dry wall. Perhaps if your walls are wooden, brick, stucco, plaster, thick dry wall, or whatever else walls are made of then you need to invest in a more expensive finder. But if you are like me and you have normal dry wall and you can't find the studs, then don't hesitate to get this one. At my Lowe's they even had a neat display where you could try this model out and one of the heavy-duty models. The display model seemed to work great for finding the edges of studs, and the one I bought is 100% on target so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sophie from This Product has too Many False Readings I tested this product somewhere I knew there was a stud and it did not read anything. I moved to another location with no stud and it read as a stud. While trying to find studs to install a drop ceiling I made seven holes around the stud and finally just gave into the knocking and screwing method. It kept saying that the studs were very close together and sometimes it was off by a foot. It was ridiculous! I have never had this many problems with such a simple product. I read the directions multiple times and there was nothing for the problems. The product was taking forever to recahrge and was wasting my time. It took me at least an hour to find six studs. I would not recommend this to anyone. The price was outrageous for the quality and it needed to be free. Later it tried a better model by the same manufacturer and it did not work either. I think this manufacturer cannot be trusted when it comes to stud finders. I do not know about any other products they might produce. I do not reccomend this for anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bryan from Don't buy this product. I purchased this to use over 1/2" sheetrock to find my studs, and it is absolutely worthless. I followed the directions provided, and the unit will not reliably find the edge of the studs. So as a result I have several holes in the sheetrock to patch. Do not waste your money on this product. Instead, pay a bit more to get a more quality stud finder that you can reliably use.
