The grates are cast iron, and it comes with a grate lifting tool to move them around or add charcoal. Keep them clean and re-season them every once in a while.

The cast Iron cooking area is Outstanding, and keeps food from sticking if you keep it oiled (seasoned) and makes cleanup as easy as pie. I can cook hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and veggies all at the same time, and even have room for more, not including heating up rolls on the top tray. The 2 wooden shelves are a real plus, and the qulity of the grill is wonderful, This is a heavy grill, but moves around with ease. I've used it every day since I purchased it, and I couldn't be more pleased. The price is Fantastic, and I have told everyone about it, it's that good.

Rated 5 de 5 de bigbill par great product This may not be for the Rookie griller as it has to be seasoned but it is great for the advanced griller! I also have the smoker side box and this baby can smoke!! it can cook you food in no time! The only problem I have with it is that the rotisserie will not work with the smoke box on it... it will work but you cant close the lid and the counter weight needs to be raised a little then it will turn. But it is just a great grill once it is seasoned and you don't need that much charcoal to cook with. The smoker box which is optional is a great thing to have if you like to smoke your food! Otherwise you don't need it.

I took it to my ranch and it's always a highlight to get to cook on it. I smoke ribs, chicken, and venison on it and they always turn out great. I'm getting ready to buy a new one for the house and will be smoking a brisket on it for Christmas Eve. The one that it is replacing was ok but smaller and the last time I was going to smoke a brisket,the brisket was to big for the smoker. The 5 year old grill needs a replacement grate which is 25 bucks on the Char Griller web site and needs to be repainted but has been a great grill.

Rated 5 de 5 de CJP par This is a great grill for new and seasoned grillers. I got the 2121 for Father's day and have been using it several times a week. It cooks great! I haven't had a charcoal grill in years, now I wonder why. Chicken, burgers, pork, and steaks come out great. I don't have the fire box, but I do smoke on it, I just build a small fire on the vent side. I clean the grates and oil them after every use, shut the lid and burn out the rest of the charcoal, if you maintain it, nothing will stick. Practice with it a couple of times, learn how it cooks and how to control the temperature, and you will love it. Also, replacing the charcoal pan every couple of years or so is a small price to pay for such an awesome grill.

I also bought the side firebox and the paint only peels off if you ADD MORE CHARCOAL THAN THE MANUAL SAYS. The best thing you can do is buy some high temp paint and touch it up. No big deal. I seasoned my grill by coating the whole with vegetable oil and letting it run at 300 degrees for a few hours to give everything a nice, golden seasoned finished. After you cook on it a few times the grates start getting a thicker coat of seasoning and turn back. My grill went together easy and is sturdy for what it is. I think this thing will last a while.

Rated 5 de 5 de Rabbit par Best charcoal grill on the market....period! :-) This is the second Char-grill that I have owned. First one I used about 8 years and gave it to my son-in-law who loves it! Bought the 2nd grill a few months ago and just like the 1st grill, its amazing....temperature easy to maintain, no heat loss whatsoever, soak some hickory chips for an hour, apply to coals & throw on some meat and watch it smoke, smokes meat to perfection! I recommend seasoning grates & inside of grill with bacon grease before using for 2 hrs at 275& add some more bacon grease to grates and cook until coals burn out. Clean grates after each use when coals cool down & spray with Pam spray, this will keep grates from rusting and you will enjoy this grill for many years to come!

I was replacing my grill of the same model that was about 4 years old. For the price I paid you can't beat this grill. Large enough for me to use my indirect BBQ techniques and have a feast! (easily holds 2 racks of ribs) I didn't connect my side box for smoking yet, but hey the summer is still young and I grill year round. Not the best grill on the market, but it gets the job done for those who just need a lot of space and like queing. You can spend $5-600 on a Bobby Flay special but not necessary, this one will last at least 3 years if you treat it right.

Ford the price I was expecting less as the price had dropped and my friends grill had to be over 5 years old so it can't be the same quality right? Wrong, same quality and same great cooking experience. I will never go back to gas again, as the food off this grill is outstanding. Next will be to try some smoking on it. I also bought this on line and to my surprise it was delivered free of charge and already put together. Lowes you rock! People don't let the price fool you this is one great grill.
