Would it be ok to use on antiques?

I would definitely NOT recommend this for antiques!  It is extremely abrasive and would definitely damage the fragile wood in an antique.

I don't see why not , it strip all kinds of paint off wood and metal . It can be aggressive, so take care not to gouge wood .

I use this on bee boxes, to roughen them up before I re-paint them. I brace the box with my legs, on a concrete surface, and let the weight of the machine apply the pressure. You do have to use 2 hands to control it, and if you are a human, no matter how much you concentrate, you will drop your focus now and then and it will spin over to your legs or elsewhere, so I suggest you wear a hearty fabric pant. Maybe even gloves. It is a power tool for heaven's sake, so be realistic. I wish they made a narrower attachment, or even a brush of sorts, to use in the curved areas (in my case, the bee box handles.) Does a lot of work, FAST.

As the owner of a large old Victorian home I have to constantly remove old paint and the Paint Eater does a great job, speeding up paint removal much easier and faster than using regular sandpaper based machines. However, when the time comes to replace the sanding disc with a new one, the plunger designed to hold the shaft while removing the sanding disc is held in place by fragile plastic. The result is that the pressure required to turn the disc to remove it exceeds the strength of the plastic holding the plunger. If my current machine breaks the plunger retainer I am going to try to remove the broken pieces and use a screwdriver shaft that will fit in the shaft. If anyone has found a lubricant that will prevent the disc from sticking to the shaft please post in on this site.

Cleaning them is increasingly a shorter-term solution. The only solution is install a new disk. One hand operation is a joke (why I bought it -- for use on a ladder). When using with one hand, the unit will balk and stutter very easily: two hands required. Compared to an orbital with coarse paper, and especially with a good belt sander with same, this is a pitiful paint remover. Money eater is more like it.

Rated 5 de 5 de NewtoTools par Product delivers. I bought a 76 year old frame house with an exterior that had paint peeling, chipping off, bare spots, every imaginable situation. No one had touched the exterior for 25 years. I took to the house first with a pressure washer, then with the PaintEater, then with the Wagner Paint Gun, then the sanders. The PaintEater saved me so much time and effort and was key in removing all the paint and taking it back down to the bare wood. I used it for 1 year (weekends) before the switch for the pad replacement broke. I contacted the company and they sent me not the switch but an entire product. This product was a lifesaver.

Rated 2 de 5 de Andy par First one broke. Trying one more. First one stopped working about a hour into the first project we tried with it. It did a decent job removing the paint, better than normal sand paper or any other methods we've tried. I would also say "paint eater" is a good name, it ingests the paint and it sticks it to the disk until its full and wont eat anymore (it pretty much stops removing paint and just heats it up until it bubbles and flakes off). It could also be called "Paint Eater Disk Eater", it goes through disks pretty fast.

Rated 4 de 5 de Fracker par Many Uses [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Here is a tool that is called "Painteater", but it could be used to remove rust from metal, smooth down a cast iron pan, as well as remove flaking paint from siding. I used it clean off a wooden countertop in my shop building. It blasted away drops of old paint and oil and stains on the surface. Then I used it on the concrete floor to clean off paint and varnish spots. Lots of dust is created using this product. It would be better if it had a port to connect a shop vac. The painteater is comfortable to use and my hands feel fine after using it, as the vibration is minimal.

Rated 3 de 5 de Sylvia par Paint eater worked fairly well [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The paint eater worked fairly well but not quite as well as I had expected. It took off some chipped paint but I had to really maneuver the "sander" to get to paint areas of the deck that were receded yet loose. This ended up being quite a bit of work when in actuality I expected this to make the work easier (as maybe a belt sander might have done). At this point I'm not really sure I would recommend this (at least not on decks) especially given the cost of it and only using it once with much elbow grease. Maybe it would work better on something else.

The sander is fine when it wants to work, but it must tend to overheat, because we will turn it off for a few hours to let it cool down, and then it never turns back on again. Strange. I would suggest you to buy a different product.
