Bad: I LOVE the use of magnets! It just needs to be able to open at a very low CFM. The three standard black, white, and brown colors should be available. If I could use this one part number on all my 4" ventilation needs I would.

Rated 2 de 5 de WNCMountainman par Not Dependable I installed this vent several weeks ago and still haven't gotten it to work reliably. Before installation I attached it to the dryer to test it and it worked fine. After installation, it opened fine, but would not always close completely. I've lubricated the hinges, checked to insure it is installed plumb and level and it still doesn't work reliably. I've noticed when I test it in short bursts it opens and closes just fine. After the dryer runs for a minute or more it never closes completely at the end of the cycle. When its stuck open it barely takes a finger tap to close it. The door doesn't seem to be in a mechanical bind and my door only has one magnet installed. I added a magnet for extra weight and the door may have closed better but was difficult for the dryer exhaust to open. I had high hopes for this attractive, weather tight and modern vent, but it looks like I'll have to replace it with something more reliable. A big waste of time and money.

Rated 4 de 5 de pearfarmer par A Much Better Dryer Vent Hood I needed to replace an old three-vane plastic hood that was installed when my house was re-sided. It had gotten brittle and had always collected dryer lint, so I looked for options. This steel vent hood looked like the best option, even though it was much more expensive. Installation was not too bad, I had a tool to pleat the end of the existing dryer vent pipe, and I cut the tubing which was attached to the new vent down to about 2-1/2" to slip over it. The reason I knocked a star off my rating is that the corners of the vent housing are not sealed. I overlooked that fact when I mounted the vent, so I had to try to force some caulk through the small cracks. I cleaned the vent pipe at the same time as it is about 30' long, and hadn't been cleaned in perhaps 10 years. I also disassembled most of the gas dryer (which I do every 2-3 years) to clean out all the lint which finds it's way out around the drum seals into the dryer. The thought of a dryer fire makes this chore a no-brainer. The vent works very well, opening to about a 45deg. angle when the dryer is running. The foam gasket around the opening behind the door should keep the cold winter winds out much better than the old vent.
