I did an outside mount so it covered the window and most of the casing. The only light that comes through is a bit at the sides and a bit at the top. Nothing blackout curtains won’t fix. It’s a must for trying to control sleeping habits of little ones (ie go to bed before the sun goes down in the summer or sleep in after the sun rises).

Rated 5 de 5 de Carolina par Buy Levelor blackout shades if you want darkness We had three rooms with beds at our vacation home that we wanted complete darkness in upon arrival. I opted to purchase Levelor’s Blackout Shades because I am very familiar with the brand and shades as well as how they work. First, let me preface this with the fact that Bob from Lowe’s in Waco was extremely friendly and professional. When I explained to him that I had 36 inch wide windows but wanted the shades cut to 46 inches wide, he asked if I was sure since he didn’t want me to make a return trip. I said, “Yes. 46 inches wide because they will be outside-mounted.” That means not recessed in the window well. I’ll share why I chose this width since I’ve read the reviews that many were disappointed or that they didn’t work. There are formulas we use to make sure they work. Here are my professional tips on why they didn’t work or rather -how blackout shades DO work: Inside mount shades for blacking out light will always have a small gap on the top and sides. If they didn’t, the shades wouldn’t have clearance (the space) to function without rubbing the sides of the window well. This is an industry standard everywhere, not just with these. Levelor offers cut to size shades which are necessary because they are easy to customize regarding width. How do you get the light blocking feature? Select a wider shade. Add a minimum of 4 inches to each side of the finished width of your window well based on the fact that you will be using Levelor’s single roller bracket with a projection of 1.5 inches once the shade is installed. Mount the shades higher than the window to prevent light leakage (light washing the wall when you don’t want it to). The extra width is there to prevent light leakage on the sides. One important factor is to buy a shade longer than your existing window height so that you can not only mount it higher but pull it lower and past the window stool for added coverage if you want to. Inside mount blackout roller shades are for windows with heavy, room darkening drapes on the sides. If you only want the shades, extend the width and length and mount the brackets on the drywall with anchors. Make sure you use anchors or the shades may fall. Our scenario: We had 2 inch blinds, a drapery rod and sheer drapes. I chose Levelor’s blackout shades to provide darkness as well as extra insulation during the summer. If you look at the photos I’ve added, you will see how they look, how far they extend past the window well on each side, and how they work in the daytime and nighttime. They really do work. The proof is in the images. The shades block out daylight. I slept in one of the rooms last night and was not awakened by the light peaking through. I actually overslept since I rely on daylight to wake me. That did nothing happen this morning. I wanted total darkness and this is as close as I got to it.

The employee at the store did an excellent job of cutting it, fit prefect. Thinking of getting more , just wish I could get my military discount on line since my local store doesn't carry this item. I recommended this to my neighbor, he is looking for something for his windows.

Rated 2 de 5 de Avleetee par Misleading, poor quality blinds I ordered this product online and I was misled into thinking it comes with installation hardware - it does not, so I had to make a separate order after receiving these blinds. The blinds themselves are poor quality, and almost always get stuck when rolling up. The only plus is that they do keep out light well. Still not worth the price for just a sheet of vinyl.

Rated 3 de 5 de Capt A par Window shade wasn't as good as I had hoped [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Shade appears to be good quality, but day 1 it unwound off the brackets, day 2 it went up askew and creased the material and ripped it along the edge. I've had better blinds, but this was the best they had to offer me.
