Rated 5 de 5 de JDA1 par My number 1 choice My first experience with Minwax products was back in 1985. I built a new primary residence and acted as general contractor. The company that finished the hardwood floors used Minwax stain and topcoated with Minwax semi-gloss polyurethane. Man did the floors look good and the durability was excellent! I have since built three new homes and renovated one. Minwax products have always been used and my number one choice for ease of application, appearance and durability. Being an avid woodworker, I also use Minwax aerosol for small projects and touch-up. Minwax and wood go together like soup and sandwich.

Rated 1 de 5 de Bob c par Amber streaking I just finished the second 50+ year old chest of drawers for my great grandkids. Both were prepared the same way in same conditions. The first chest I used the old “clear gloss “ on brilliant white paint and result was a very attractive amber with a great shine. The second I didn’t have enough of the old gloss so I bought a gallon of the New Warm Gloss and was told it was the same formula?? Nope!! I now have amber streaks, I put on second coat hoping it would even out, just made it worse. I have used Minwax for 20 years and never had a problem, until they changed. Too Bad, looking for new supplier.

Rated 5 de 5 de Chairman par Love The Spray I have been a long time user of all Minwax products. The stains, polyurethanes,including Polycrylic and wipe on poly. I started using the spray polyurethane on several small projects a few years ago and I absolutely love it. If you follow the instructions and do several light coats 2 hours apart, it will give you a professional looking finish on all wooden surfaces. I've used the satin, semi gloss and the gloss. I haven't been disappointed yet. I love the way the spray nozzle turns to spray horizontally and vertically. I have had no problems with the nozzle clogging, even after storing cans for several months. I am a fan of all Minwax products and I plan on using them for many years to come.

Rated 4 de 5 de Whit par Mistakes Made - Lesson Learned I just finished a project. Unfortunately, after using Expresso stain, I had an old can of satin Minwax Fast Drying Poly. After adding the first coat, it was very shiny. Unfortunately, after reviewing my problem, the additive in the stain that causes the satin finish was not stirred well. I re-coated several times from a new can and got some improvement. Lesson learned - If you have to pry the top off an old can, throw it away. Now I have a semi-gloss finish and the original stain is darker than I wanted. I was using rough cedar. Should I have also put pre-stain on that before I stained it? Oh well!!!

Rated 2 de 5 de BoxMaker par Minwax warm Satin not the same as clear satin I have been a long time user of Minwax clear satin polyurethane. When trying to restock my shop, I found clear satin is no longer available. Minwax tells me they now sell warm Satin and that it is the same thing. I am only a two person shop but both of us noticed a difference between the clear and the warm. We have good experience with clear and limited with the warm. We both find warm to be more difficult to work with as it tends to run more and level out less. Net result is more sanding and more coats. Disappointing. We also feel the warm is a tad glossier than clear. Not what we want but not so much that it is a problem. We very much would like to see clear on the shelf and not the new warm.

Rated 1 de 5 de Ryan par Poor Finish Attributes I should have known, this product is not good. I started using a penetrating stain on red oak, let it dry for a few days then came back to put this on, what a mistake! The first layer, not sure what was going on but pulled the stain out of the wood and wouldn't dry. I lightly sanded 220 to knock any high spots off, then decided to charge forward and finish a second coat. I could tell, right away, it wasn't going to end up good. Alligatoring of the original coat, almost dilsolving it and making it run after 24 hours of dry time. This is the last time I use a Minwax product, they're terrible. Ruined my project, not I'm not sure what to do to rectify the finish. The wipe-on poly is the only finish worth a cent.

Rated 5 de 5 de DaveLS par Easy to get good results I’m a fan of this product. I put on a coat, lightly sanded with 220 grit then put on a second coat and it is very good, nearly perfect. As others have stated, the odor is fairly obnoxious, especially the first coat on bare wood. My project is out in my shop so that’s not an issue. It takes about a week to disappear. The spray can product is worse, might take two weeks. I can see coating an entire floor in a bedroom you may need a gas mask. The first night I could smell it from outside my shop after the doors were closed within about 10 feet. If this is an issue for you Minwax makes a water based Polycrylic which is almost odor free but I find it a bit more difficult to get good results especially on pine. The polyurethane is simpler to use in my experience.
